Families/friends can fully embrace the slower pace of life in this idyllic rural retreat on the northern edge of the Lake District. Lakes and mountains are to the south and the Solway Coast is to the north.
Located in the historic village of Bothel, this charming property is well situated to explore the best of Cumbria’s coast and country. To the north, the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has a rich and varied landscape to discover with an abundance of flora and fauna and attractive towns and villages. Just 6.5 miles south, Bassenthwaite Lake, with its nesting ospreys, offers leisurely lakeside strolls, whereas Skiddaw, which overlooks the lake, offers more of a challenge. Outdoor capital, Keswick, is popular for its independent shops and eateries, and county capital, Carlisle (20 miles) is packed with history. When you return home of an evening, head out for a drink or a meal at the village pub, which is only 500 metres away.
This delightful cottage is full of history and has been in the owner’s family for over 100 years. It has therefore been lovingly restored to create a modern country-cottage feel throughout, with light tones and wooden furniture adding warmth. On arriving, head to the kitchen, down a step at the back of the house, where you will find a basket of local produce to help you feel at home. Well-equipped, the kitchen has everything you’ll need including an electric oven and hob, fridge, dishwasher, microwave, air fryer, coffee pod machine and washing machine. As well as a dining area with ample seating for everyone, there is also a convenient breakfast bar with seating for four where you can keep the cook company or enjoy an informal meal. There are two lounges in the property. At the front of the property, there is a large lounge with an open coal fire, Smart TV and comfy sofas for sinking into of an evening. To the rear, there is a smaller lounge with Smart TV/DVD and views of the garden and the fells beyond. There is also the convenience of a utility room with a chest freezer, tumble dryer and second fridge. Completing the ground floor is a well-presented king-size bedroom and shower room with WC. Upstairs, there are three more beautiful bedrooms, all with traditional furniture, countryside views and inspiring quotes from Bronte and Austen on the walls. There are two double bedrooms and one twin bedroom. There is also a family bathroom with a luxurious shower over a roll-top bath.
Outside, there are large gardens shared with the owners to the front and rear with plenty to discover from roaming chickens, stone circles, to a babbling stream and a BBQ to enjoy in the warmer weather. Kids and dogs alike will love exploring, but may need to be watched, due to the stream and the busy road beyond the bottom of the garden. There is ample parking and bike storage available.
