Keswick is a bustling town that boasts peaceful, quiet areas as well as independent shops and an array of eateries, from coffee bars to ice cream parlours. Put on your walking boots and head up ever-popular Latrigg spotting wildlife along the way. Pack a picnic and walk or cycle the full 10-mile circuit around the lake, and adventure enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice: try paddleboarding on the lake, rent a bike from Keswick Mountain Bikes, or make a splash with some ghyll scrambling. There are lots of outdoor adventure activity providers around the lake. Mirehouse and Gardens, 4.5 miles away has lovely parkland and gardens, whilst Wordsworth House, 13 miles, is the historic former home of Wordsworth featuring period details, tours and educational programs. Travel 25 miles to the Solway Coast for expansive horizons and pebble beaches to enjoy a bracing seaside stroll. End the day with a hearty meal at one of the many pubs within 0.5 miles of the cottage.
