  • Characterful cottage perfect for couples and small families
  • Spectacular views of the Skiddaw range from the first-floor lounge
  • Located between Keswick and Cockermouth, just 1 mile from Bassenthwaite Lake shore and walking distance to the local pub
Property code: SZ042

A lovely home from which to explore, whether you prefer a hike or a cycle, there is something for everyone. Approach Skiddaw (6 miles) from the north, a quieter route than the busier southern track, and summit England’s fourth highest mountain for panoramic views. Treat your climb with a meal in the local pub which lies a mile from your door and is a great place to enjoy a night off from the kitchen, or travel 7 miles to the vibrant market town of Keswick where plenty of eateries and rainy day activities await. Hop on your bike and cycle 8.5 miles to Whinlatter Forest where you can ride along a host of tracks and trails or entertain little ones at the Lake District Wildlife Park (1 mile).

Step inside this charming 18th-century cottage and make yourselves right at home. Head into the spacious kitchen/diner where you can sit at the table with a cup of tea and find all you need to rustle up well-deserved feasts after adventurous days. The kitchen includes an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer and microwave - there is also a washing machine. After dining at the table, climb stairs to the first floor where the inviting lounge and its stunning views welcome you to melt into one of the sofas and relax in front of the TV. Great for family film nights, switch on the Smart TV and stack the coffee table high with treats. When it’s time to rest weary heads, make your way back downstairs where the pair of bedrooms are found. The double bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with WC and shower over the bath. Decorated in calming tones, the twin is also a lovely place to switch off for the night and the family shower room with WC and double shower cubicle offers somewhere to enjoy a refreshing rinse.

Take your morning tea or coffee outside into the garden. This enclosed, lawned space is great for children to play and the outdoor furniture makes it a comfortable place to bask in the sun and sip a tipple of an evening. If you need somewhere to store bikes, the owner can make some space available in their lockable garage. There is off-road parking.

Cottage was fabulous, perfect for our needs. Clean and welcoming, with a stunning view of Skiddaw from the upstairs lounge. Theresa, the host, was lovely, very warm and friendly! Even introduced us to her chickens! The cottage location is great for visiting the beautiful countryside and towns. Lovely walks to Bassenthwaite Lake, to the nearby hotelRead more/bar, and to the local wildlife park meant we didn't always use the car. Would definitely return! Thank you! Hide

A cosy comfortable cottage in a quiet location, served by regular buses giving access to places of interest locally and further afield. The property owners were extremely helpful and a fund of information.

We had a lovely few days. The cottage had everything we needed. It was warm and cosy even though the weather outside was cold and snowy.
