This welcoming cottage boasts glorious views and is perfectly placed for exploring some of the Lake District’s most popular attractions, including Windermere, Kendal and Grizedale Forest.

Enjoy a home away from home holiday in this charming cottage in the village of Backbarrow. The property, which accommodates up to five guests, enjoys an elevated position with views toward the surrounding fells. There’s so much to do nearby, from exhilarating fell climbs to majestic lake cruises. Just one mile away is the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, where you can board a vintage steam train and chug through the spectacular scenery to Windermere. While there, why not embark on a memorable trip on one of the historic steamers? You’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to nearby walks; join the West Winderemere Way at Newby Bridge, walk along the shore of Windermere, watch the steam trains pass, stop at the Aquarium of the Lakes at Lakeside, where you can return on the train, board the Windermere cruise, or continue walking through Finsthwaite and onto High Dam. You're truly spoiled for choice. Enjoy a family day out at National Trust Fell Foot. Enjoy the café, take a picnic, hire a boat, or walk the meadows looking out for wildlife. Also situated nearby is the Lakeland Motor Museum, or you can head to Grizedale Forest (10 miles) to explore multiple trails and, for the more adrenaline-seeking, GoApe. If you require some rest and recuperation after a tiring few days, Cascades Spa at the Whitewater Hotel is nearby.

A flight of external steps lead to this cosy cottage. The spacious lounge/diner is arranged in an L-shape and has a cosy wood burner for you to snuggle in front of on a chilly evening whilst watching a good film on the TV/DVD. Vibrant fabrics and warm tones create a lovely homely atmosphere. The colour scheme continues into the dining area, where you can all gather for evening meals and to plan the next day’s itinerary. The light and airy kitchen has lovely views out over the garden and is equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. There’s also a handy washing machine for any muddy walking gear. Heading upstairs, discover three charming bedrooms: a warm and inviting double with an en-suite bathroom with shower and WC, a bright twin and a cosy single. On this floor you’ll also find the stylish family bathroom, with a bath, shower and WC. Steps lead to the elevated garden, with fabulous views towards the fells; sit here with a pre-dinner drink for a moment of peace and tranquillity. Had a lovely comfortable stay. The house was very well equipped both in terms of kitchen items and also with things to do. Lots of games and puzzles for all ages. It couldn't be faulted, really good base to explore this part of the Lake District, especially when coming from down. South! Would highly recommend.

Very well-stocked property including games, books, guides, maps and woodpiles. Genuine off-road parking for 2 vehicles to the front of the property. The lack of a ground floor toilet is the only drawback but otherwise excellent.
