The quaint rural village of Hayton is a fabulous base for exploring both the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the northern parts of the Lake District National Park. The historic coastal town of Maryport (6.5 miles) is known for its Georgian and Victorian architecture, and is home to a bustling harbour, the Senhouse Roman Museum and the Lake District Coast Aquarium. Also nearby is Allonby (3 miles), known for its 5-mile beach and breathtaking coastal walks. The area has several beautiful beaches and a number of excellent golf courses. Heading inland, Cockermouth (9 miles) is the birthplace of William Wordsworth and marks an entry point into the Lake District, with Bassenthwaite Lake within easy reach (14 miles).
