Discover the heart of Cumbria whilst staying in unrivalled comfort. This family home happily sleeps six guests and two dogs, providing the perfect base for a hiking or biking getaway in the local area.

Known worldwide for its stunning scenery and dramatic landscapes, the Lake District National Park certainly is an outdoor adventurers’ paradise. Step out with walking boots and packed lunches in tow to summit its many mountain peaks, discovering the impressive Blencathra (8 miles) and Great Mell Fell (4.5 miles) close by or starting off easy with a trip up the Little Mell Fell (5 miles). Those who find themselves drawn to the water will be happy to discover Ullswater just 5 miles away, embark on a boat trip, spot of wild swimming or perhaps just a walk around. The Aira Force Waterfall (6 miles), located on the banks of the river, is a stunning sight to see, as is the nearby manor house and gardens of Dalemain Mansion (5.5 miles).

This bright and cheerful property has been lovingly updated to create a true home from home, the ideal atmosphere for your stay. On arrival you can hang coats and stow away muddy boots in the hallway before wandering down into the kitchen. Complete with an electric oven and hob, fridge, microwave and dishwasher, this kitchen was designed with the modern family in mind. Someone can sit up at the breakfast bar to keep the cook company as they prepare meals for hungry mouths. Additional appliances and storage space is also located in the utility room with washing machine and a large freezer. Enjoy meals together in the dining room which leads directly off from the lounge. The lounge is three steps down from the hallway and features a welcome wood burner for those colder evenings in. Sink into cushy L-shaped sofas and enjoy a friendly debate on what to put on the TV. The first of two bathrooms can be found right here on the ground floor with WC and shower over bath. Venture up to the first floor where three bedrooms boast far-reaching rural views to wake up to each and every morning. Two of these rooms are made up as king-size bedrooms with soft and inviting bedding, the third is a bunk bedroom that’s perfect for two. Finally, an additional shower room with WC allows for speedy getting ready first thing in the morning.

A pretty garden with mature shrubbery awaits you adjacent to the property. Located next to a car port which welcomes two cars, this garden features a bistro set for al fresco drinks or dining and a small lawn area for children or pets to play.

Comfortable cottage, very well equipped, plenty of room for everyone, fantastic location. However there is definitely a damp/black mould issue. We were there for 5 weeks so maybe not such an issue if you are on a shorter stay. The cleaning before we arrived was also a bit dubious/superficial. The drains for 2 sinks and the dishwasher became blockedRead more within a couple of days and we had to clean them out. Hide

A lovely stay. The garden is not the best and no back door access for the dogs so had to keep walking out the front door and round to the garden. Fencing around garden not very secure. The garden was a let down but house lovely.

Our 2nd visit to beautiful Oakdene. It's well furnished and the kitchen had everything we needed. Motherby is nice village, near to Penrith and Ullswater and the A66 is close by but not close enough to be heard. Excellent cottage, ideal for the surrounding area. Close to Ullswater and Pooley Bridge, less than an hour from Windermere, with Keswick 12 miles and Penrith 7 miles away. Perfect for our little holiday. Comfortable and modern furnishings, a real home from home for anyone. Would recommend to any of my friends looking for a break in the Lakes area.

Oakdene is a beautifully done barn conversion. The area is conveniently situated near Penrith for shopping but also close to Ullswater. Please be aware that the garden is tiny. We couldn't use it because the outdoor furniture was in full sun and the weather was extremely hot when we were there. A parasol is needed.
