  • Rural retreat for two packed with original features and looking out on awe-inspiring mountain scenery

  • Perfectly placed for walking enthusiasts, with routes directly from the front door and Scafell Pike just 9 miles away
Property code: SZ471

Striking cottage, deep in the heart of Eskdale, with fascinating walking opportunities in every direction. Take a ride on a steam train through the picturesque valley or head to the dramatic Cumbrian coast to discover remote beaches and quaint villages.

Surrounded by a spectacular landscape of mountains and forest, this romantic bolthole is the ideal place to escape from it all. Snuggle up next to the roaring wood burner after a long fell walk or unwind in the vast garden, sipping wine on the sun loungers. Walkers will be in their element, with Scafell Pike just 9 miles away and numerous smaller walks directly from your front door. Giggle Alley Forest (0.5 miles) is a great place for an afternoon stroll, particularly through the magical Japanese Garden. You can’t come to Eskdale without a ride on the steam railway, which carries you through the National Park to Ravenglass (6.5 miles), a coastal village with bags of seafaring character and charm.

Step inside the stone cottage and into the impressive lounge, which features statement furniture and fabulous exposed beams adorning the ceiling. Relax on the leather sofa in front of the warming wood burner to watch your favourite programme on the SkyTV. Three steps lead from here to the kitchen/diner. This light and bright space is full of character, with elegant slate flooring and the cottage’s original bread oven. Rustle up a tasty dinner for two in the electric oven or on the gas hob, to share together at the round dining table. In the kitchen/diner you’ll also find the fridge/freezer, microwave and handy washing machine. Stairs lead from the lounge to the mezzanine king-size bedroom. This room oozes personality, thanks to the fabulous exposed beams, and has lovely views out over the garden to the countryside beyond. The room has a sloping ceiling, so just watch out for the restricted head height in some areas. The first floor also houses the bathroom, which has a beautiful bath to soak in at the end of the day, as well as a handheld shower and WC. Again, watch out for the restricted head height in this room.

The outside space at this cottage is quite spectacular. You’ll have a choice of two patios to sit on, a firepit where you can toast marshmallows, sun loungers and a huge lawn for your canine friends to run around on. There’s also ample off-road parking for your car.

  • 1 king-size bedroom
  • 1 bathroom with bath, handheld shower, and WC
  • Electric oven and gas hob, fridge/freezer, microwave and washing machine
  • Wood burner
  • Sky TV
  • CCTV at the property faces the owner's private store and the driveway
  • Large garden with lawn, patio, outdoor furniture, firepit and sun loungers
  • Ample off-road parking - there is a steep gravel driveway into the property. Low wheelbase cars may struggle, and it is suggested that front wheel drive cars reverse in to maintain traction
  • Restricted head height in the bedroom and bathroom
  • Pub, shop, and restaurant 0.5 miles
  • This property will be decorated for Christmas
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00, unless otherwise stated in your arrival details
