Create unforgettable memories within this fine period residence set with this peaceful village of Middle Mayfield. An ideal gathering place for relaxation, celebrations or country pursuits.

Middle Mayfield lies on the Derbyshire and Staffordshire border and sits on the southern tip of the Peak District. The village itself is surrounded by stunning countryside and Georgian architecture, meaning you can enjoy rural rambles through rich pastures and riverside meadows, and along ancient tracks that head back even further in time. Dine out at some of the local pubs, a stylish gastropub in Ellastone is only 2.5 miles away. The steppingstones of Dovedale on the river Dove with its stunning views of Thorpe Cloud is just 6 miles away, close by is the reservoir Carsington Water (9 miles), perfect for birdwatching, water sports, walking and cycling around its eight-mile perimeter. Visit the Tissington, High Peak and Manifold trails (3 miles, 12 miles and 16 miles respectively), Chatsworth House Gardens (23 miles) and the historic town of Bakewell (20 miles). For a fun-filled day, head to Alton Towers theme park (6 miles).

Enter the property via the stone porch, a handy area for muddy wellies and wet dogs. Step inside and a wonderful parlour with a decorative large open inglenook fireplace welcomes you with cosy woodburner, and a table sits in front with a comfortable armchair. Step down to the large country-style kitchen with a large breakfast table in the centre. Prepare large celebratory dinners on the range-style cooker with gas hob and electric oven. There is a fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave included. For more formal dinners, settle at the large dining table within the characterful dining room featuring Jacobean panelled walls and a second woodburner and a small hidden reading nook, should you want a quiet spot to read after dinner. The period features continue into the drawing room, which is furnished with cosy leather sofas and includes a Smart TV - perfect for some downtime at the end of the day. When sleep calls, make your way up one of the two staircases (please note some of the steps in the building are narrow and uneven) and find your bedroom, with the choice of a single room, a super-king four-poster bed, a king-size, another two super-king-size zip-and-link beds (can be twins on request) - one of which has an additional single bed with a guest pull out trundle, which would be ideal for a family room or all the children in one room! Begin your morning with a refreshing start in one of the two bathrooms: a shower room on the ground floor with WC and a large family bathroom with a shower over a freestanding bath and WC.

Outside is a generous lawn garden where children and their furry friends may potter about to their heart's content. In the evening, sizzle up a BBQ and dine alfresco on the outdoor dining table and chairs. There is off-street parking for 3-4 cars.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Old Hall. An amazing property, steeped in history. Our son loved the kitchen which was well appointed and had a useful size table for the seven of us to sit at. We also used the main dining room as well. Plenty of place mats and coasters to protect both tables. The lounge had very comfortable seating and an amazingRead more ceiling. The beds were very comfortable too. We thoughly enjoyed the countyside walks and a few bike rides to Ashbourne. Hide

The property is fantastic with lots of space and character and is decorated beautifully - we really loved the elephant room where the kids slept. Wendy was really helpful with any queries we had. It was a bit chilly downstairs but soon warmed up when the fires got going. The property is well equipped and comfortable. Another good family Christmas at Old Hall. The kids loved the letter and presents that Santa (owners) left for them. A really nice touch. The adults appreciated the drinks and cakes found on arrival. An excellent location for a large family gathering with room to always find a quiet corner if so inclined. Recommend highly.

A fabulous property with an interesting history. It is very well equipped and the range cooker was perfect for large suppers with the family. My young grandchildren loved playing hide and seek through the house!

We have just spent a lovely Xmas at the old hall. The house was beautifully decorated for Xmas and the wood burners were an added bonus, making it very cosy. The beds were comfortable & linens were of good quality. The kitchen was well equipped and spacious for us all to gather. The stairs were a bit tricky for the older members of our group. A hanRead moredrail would help. Also a 2nd shower would be beneficial. Welcome pack was much appreciated. Overall a lovely house to stay in. Hide
