Unique cottage close to the heart of Rothbury’s wide-ranging amenities, with the national park on the doorstep, and plenty of space inside and outside. Perfect for couples, friends and families.

This unique cottage has been fully refurbished by the owner with lots of lovely, bespoke touches, and features ensuring a relaxing and memorable holiday. Located less than half a mile from the friendly shops, bars and restaurants of Rothbury, you can leave the car and walk into town taking the Jacob’s Ladder steps down to the bridge and across the River Coquet. Play golf or enjoy a picturesque river walk and picnic, spotting the birds and local wildlife. Spend time at magnificent Cragside House and Gardens (1.5 miles), climb the local Simonside Hills to enjoy fabulous views from the top, and explore the walking and cycling trails around the Northumberland National Park. Visit Alnwick’s market town, stunning Castle and Gardens (12 miles) and stroll on Alnmouth’s sandy beach.

Step through the front door and into the hallway where you can leave your outdoor clothing and walking boots. Head through to the open-plan snug and lounge/diner with gorgeous wood flooring, and an original stone inglenook fireplace with a double-sided wood burner dividing the two areas. The snug is a lovely place to sit quietly with your book or to watch the Smart TV. The impressive main lounge/diner has high ceilings and windows on three sides, plus the Velux windows which allow natural light to flood in and create a warm, tranquil place to relax. Settle back on the comfortable seating to catch up with one another and plan your next day’s adventures. You can enjoy sociable mealtimes sitting at the dining table with views out to the garden, and the French doors open to the patio so you can listen to the birdsong. There is a Smart TV in this room too for your entertainment. The kitchen has beautiful, bespoke wooden worktops and everything you need including an electric oven and hob, a fridge/freezer, microwave, and washing machine. There is a king-size bed in the ground-floor bedroom with a contemporary en-suite shower room with WC. The second shower room is also downstairs and features another shower and WC. Upstairs, you will find the charming second bedroom with a king-size bed. This is a unique space with a sloping low ceiling height and built-in storage for your belongings.

Outside, there is a wrap-around, west-facing gravel and lawn garden with a fire pit and garden table and chairs for al fresco dining, sunset drinks, and stargazing. Parking is off-road for one small to medium car in an allocated space off the access lane. There is additional roadside parking at the end of the access lane (subject to availability).

The cottage is a little gem. It is a bit tucked away but once you get used to where it is and the parking, it is great. Very warm and comfortable. Getting into town is a breeze, just walk down the hill and you're there. As a base for exploring Northumberland it is ideal.

Restawhile was a great home away from home for the week we were there. The cottage is cosy without being cramped. The bedrooms and bathrooms are all well furnished and clean. The main living area is lovely, plenty of light during the day even on a dull day, which we unfortunately had. Lovely cottage with extremely friendly owners and neighbours. Comfortable and warm in an amazing location. Within easy reach of several NT properties and Beaches. The lane Upto the cottage is very narrow and in need of repairs. Extremely small turning circle which requires you to reverse down the drive even in a small car, not an easy manoeuvre. Great cottage, really comfortable, Ideally located to explore the local area. Garden perfect for Digby dog. Can get all you need in Rothbury, 5 minutes walk away. It's our second visit to Restawhile and would not rule out a third!

We thought it was an excellent base for exploring the local areas. The cottage is very pretty and well equipped although it could have been cleaned more thoroughly before we arrived. We hope to return to this area soon and would happily come back and stay at Restawhile. The neighbours are very friendly as well and made us feel welcome.

Cottage is in a good position in Rothbury, with good access to the local amenities. Garden is very dog friendly and there is good access to local walks.

We had a lovely week in this beautiful property. Our dogs not only loved the freedom of the enclosed garden but the cosy nights by the fire. Perfectly situated to both go for walks in the local area or travel to neighbouring attractions. The heated flooring in a property like this is rare and a real luxury.

The cottage was very well equipped and had added quirky features and fixtures and fittings. It was a bit awkward to manoeuvre the car in the space but we managed well enough. Despite the rain and wet underfoot we were able to keep the cottage clean with having a dog, with an array of towels and blankets

What a find! A little piece of heaven tucked away in a village location. Stunningly converted and furnished, including old implements transformed into lights, with decorative bulbs! Everything has been thought of, logs and kindling for the open fire to a welcoming bottle of wine. Plenty of seating areas inside and out. We had a fantastic stay at Restawhile this Oct. The cottage was gorgeous, if slightly smaller than we expected from the photos, however it was wonderful and so comfy. Disappointing. Located behind a run down cottage. Lane up to property parking very narrow. Parked across 2 allocated spaces for easier access to get out. Pathway to cottage rather overgrown. Garden area would be lovely if tendered regularly. Downstairs bedroom rather dark as low ceiling and a small window. No carpet on stairs to attic bedroom. Rothbury is a good base to explore Northumberland. Newcastle and Hexham are not far away. We enjoyed Alnwick, lots to do and see. Cragside House, Holy Isle and Bamburgh castle are within easy reach as is Hadrians wall. The cottage is comfortable, well equipped and 'quirky' but ceilings are quite low. Got everything you need in the property for a pleasant stay. Small area of grass outside for the dogs. The drive up the property is very steep. If you aren't a convenient driver park on the road though it is quite a drag up if you need to carry things to the property. Both bedrooms have comfy beds. Kitchen has the equipment you need. We had a really great time - the cottage was lovely with everything we needed & the owners had thoughtfully left us some goodies which we enjoyed. A lovely mix of home comforts, luxury touches, and some quirks. A little bit steam punkish in places, but everything works lovely, and is very clean. Showers are amazing, but no bath (not massive issue for some, but worth a mention). Rothbury is a beautiful little village: friendly people, amazing places to eat, decent prices and river/hill walks hRead moreard to compete with anywhere. We absolutely LOVED this beautiful cottage,everything about Restawhile was simply gorgeous especially the decor which was beautiful. The owners had given a lot of thought to everything and that was plain to see,the kitchen was equipped with everything you could possibly need. The cottage is set in a very nice location a bit tight up the driveway but once you are up no problem, loads to do around the area we visited some of the coastal routes and woodland walks. Would recommend this area / cottage to friends and family.

Wonderful place to stay. We loved every minute, Restawhile is full of character and everything is of the highest quality. The garden is fully enclosed which is always a bit of a concern for us with 2 bouncy dogs but nothing to worry about here! Great location for exploring Northumberland, and very close to Cragside, which was a bonus.
