This idyllic cottage is nestled in a beautiful rural location 5 miles from the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall, the largest Roman monument in Europe. This is a very special place for a romantic escape, where you can enjoy fantastic walking and hiking routes from the property – explore Gelt Woods which is an ancient woodland or enjoy a trip to Talkin Tarn Country Park for water sports such as canoeing and wild swimming (both within 8 miles). Just over a mile takes you to a local farm that sells delicious Jersey milk and shakes, where you can often pet newborn calves depending on the season. You are just 4.5 miles from the picturesque market town of Brampton, within 20 miles of the Lake District National Park and only 12 miles from the world-famous Gretna Green on the Scottish border. The local area also has some lovely country pubs serving great food. Set within the grounds of the owner’s property this beautiful, thatched cottage is a real hidden gem and offers the perfect romantic retreat.
As you enter the property you will find yourself in the hallway where you can kick off shoes and hang coats. The kitchen has been perfectly designed, utilising every bit of space to ensure you have everything you need during your stay. The breakfast bar offers a great place to enjoy a coffee while chatting with the designated chef. Enjoy a hearty breakfast or a romantic meal in the evening whilst looking over the views of open fields, and the only nosey neighbour may be the resident cows or sheep looking over the fence. Completing the ground floor is a shower room. From the hallway, head up the wooden staircase to the first floor. Here, you will find the open-plan suite consisting of lounge and sleeping areas which offers you a cosy romantic retreat to kick back and relax. The lounge area has comfortable sofas, a Smart TV and a wood burner-effect electric fire. The king-size bedroom leads on from the lounge and has been designed with romance in mind.
The enclosed garden is inspiring. Being part of the National Garden Scheme, it is clear just how much time and thought has gone into this garden. It is shared with the owners, but you are welcome to explore and enjoy the flower beds, willow arches and water features. The garden was awarded a Gold for the Cumbria in Bloom (tourism category) in October 2022 & 2023. There is a private seating area at the back of the property which overlooks the open fields and is a lovely space to enjoy a drink, read a book or stargaze at night.
