This charming 17th-century stone cottage offers an excellent location between the quaint towns of Shanklin and Ventnor on the Isle of Wight. In Shanklin (I.6 miles) you can descend Shanklin Chine, a picturesque gorge that leads down to the sea, and explore Shanklin Old Village with its thatched cottages and gift shops. Ventnor is home to a stunning botanic garden with Mediterranean-style gardens and exotic plants. You can swim at the towns’ sandy beaches or explore the Victorian seafronts. Both towns have restaurants, cafes and pubs for you to enjoy fresh seafood and locally sourced produce. The coastal footpath through Luccombe linked the towns until a major landslip last year (part of an ongoing series of prehistoric landslides dating back to the last ice age) destroyed the coastal footpath to Ventnor, although there are alternative footpaths. Shanklin is easily reached through an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and National Trust land.
You'll be transported to a tranquil space free from modern life's distractions as you go through one of the two private entrances – either via the historic wagon hoves or up the outside steps to the twin room. Through the hoves you enter the living room with two cosy sofas and a wood burner-effect electric fire providing the perfect spot for unwinding with a good book or simply gazing out of the double doors that offer breathtaking views of the surroundings and the bay. With no TV or Wi-Fi to distract you can truly retreat and bask in the peace of this lovely abode. The kitchen is equipped with all the essentials needed enabling you to cook a hearty breakfast or evening meal. The bedrooms are upstairs; a double and a twin room offering comfortable and peaceful sleeping accommodation with views of the night sky. Situated between the two bedrooms is the family bathroom where you can enjoy a relaxing shower to relieve the day's stresses.
Nestled in picturesque surroundings the garden provides a perfect spot for outdoor eating, featuring a brick barbecue, a stream and an abundance of verdant plants and foliage. It's an ideal place to relish a peaceful breakfast while listening to the melodious birdsong or spend a lazy afternoon basking in the sun away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
