A handsome former barn, surrounded by picturesque countryside, this Exmoor National Park retreat is a walkers’ paradise. It is situated near Brendon, 4.5 miles from Lynton, in North Devon. The South West Coast Path is 2.5 miles away, via a riverside walk from the National Trust’s woodland beauty spot of Watersmeet. Sleeping four guests, the two-bedroom hideaway has a reverse-level design to maximise its scenic views. Visit Lynmouth, 5 miles away, to spend time at the charming harbour, browse in the shops and catch the Victorian, water-powered, funicular train to Lynton. Head to Blacklands Beach, 5.5 miles away, to paddle in the sea and potter in rock pools; Sillery Sands, 4 miles away, is more secluded but very beautiful.
Climb the external steps up to let yourselves into the barn at the first-floor level. The lounge/kitchen/diner is up here and with its beams, vaulted ceiling and wood burner, is a great place to unwind together after your daily excursions in Exmoor. Watch TV or a DVD, play on the PlayStation and take in the views out over the rolling countryside as the wood burner glows. Prepare hearty homecooked meals in the kitchen area. When it is time to lay your head on your pillow for the night, make your way down the internal stairs to the ground floor, where a king-size bedroom and a twin are located. Also down here is the family bathroom.
Soak up the serenity of this secluded setting out in the delightful garden, which has a large, decked area and a rough, sloping grassed area to the side.
