Property code: OC-GL002

This captivating barn conversion for two sits in a peaceful spot right by the edge of Grasmere Water, and is just 1 mile from the cafes, pubs and restaurants of bustling Grasmere village, which has long been a favourite pit-stop for hungry hikers. The village is also popular with admirers of the poet William Wordsworth, whose home, Dove Cottage, is now a visitor attraction with its own museum and library. Wordsworth’s other home, Rydal Mount, is just under 4 miles away and is known for its magical views over Rydal Water and Windermere. If those beguiling lake vistas are tempting you to get out on the water, head to Coniston, just over 8 miles away, and experience a memorable heritage cruise on a Victorian steam-powered yacht.

This compact barn conversion offers smart, modern, studio-style accommodation. The property forms an L-shape, with the lounge/kitchen/diner at one end and bedroom and bathroom spaces at the other, and has beautiful flagstone flooring and underfloor heating throughout. Windows on three sides maximise the light that floods the lounge/kitchen/diner, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering spellbinding views across Grasmere Water to the fells beyond. Two luxurious leather reclining chairs are positioned by the windows, adjacent to a compact dining table and chairs, and are flanked by a sleek kitchen which provides cooking facilities for easy evening meals. Around the corner, a king-size bedroom enjoys its own leafy views and, just off here, there’s a shower room with a walk-in shower.

From the lounge/kitchen/diner, French doors open out onto an elevated, decked terrace with a bistro-style table and chairs - an irresistible spot for morning coffee or evening drinks, savouring the lake and fell views. You also have access to the shared garden, which overlooks Grasmere lake.

An amazing, perfect view and peaceful location, though a light makeover would be beneficial. Weve stayed a few times, and the curtains are still the same, and are fading in the sun over the past 8-10 years.

The location of this property is fabulous, both its geographical location and the views of the lake and gardens are lovely. The studio was comfortable and the balcony is great in nice weather. It was mostly clean, but was let down by dust and cobwebs and spiders all over the ceiling and walls ( we hoovered for 30 mins when we arrived) also many spoRead moret lights were out, so it was impossible to see in any mirror. We would probably return due to the great location. Hide

Delightful studio style converted barn with amazing views over the garden to Grasmere lake. However, there were several issues that would deter us from returning or recommending to friends and family.

Location is stunning. Location is great for lots of walks near by. This is a perfect get away note for anyone with a small dog that is well behaved! Note this is relatively small so ideal for a short break. However, it is all about the view!!

Compact and comfortable cottage in a great location, 15 minute walk from Grasmere (village), with a lovely view east over Grasmere (lake). Single L-shaped room (plus bathroom) so not lots of space - we had great weather, although it might be less cozy with lots of wet gear in the room. Lovely garden overlooking the lake (shared, but plenty of spaceRead more) and there are two paths nearby leading down to the lake shore (one of them through a wood), so great for morning/evening dog walks. There are plenty of 2-3 hour walks from the cottage, which can be extended if you are so inclined. We found the cottage adequately equipped for cooking, but previous reviews were critical - as with all holiday cottages, if youre planning to cook best take some sharp knives and your own pans/casserole dishes if you need something specific. The garden is secure for most dogs - the was a sheep in the garden when we got there but we notified the agents and the fence was secured within 2 days. We would definitely stay here again. Hide
