This spacious property has been thoughtfully designed by its owners to provide the perfect getaway for families or couples looking for a quiet rural retreat without sacrificing luxurious home comforts. Those who love walking can explore pretty country lanes and footpaths; the picturesque village of Drewsteignton in the valley of the River Teign, just over 2 miles away, has a village store, pub and fine dining restaurant. Fingle Bridge, also 2 miles away, has an excellent pub and breathtaking scenery, and the river has many bathing areas and river beaches for hot summer days. Nearby Chagford is known for its 15th and 16th-century buildings, independent shops, restaurants and the largest freshwater outdoor swimming pool in Devon. Not only that, but the cathedral city of Exeter is only 14 miles away.

There is an abundance of living space downstairs, with ceiling heights of 21ft in the open-plan kitchen/dining/living room, a wood burner for cosy evenings in and an exceptionally well-equipped kitchen with two ovens. A utility room and shower room lead off the entrance hall and at the other end of the barn is a cosy snug with another wood burner, a Smart TV and a children’s toy kitchen. Evenings or rainy days can be spent in the games room, which has a full-size snooker table (over 16s only). The master bedroom has its own open tread staircase leading off from the living area and features a super-king-size bed, a Juliet balcony with a glass balustrade and an en-suite shower room, as well as a free-standing bath in the bedroom with views out onto the garden. The other three bedrooms are accessed from the other end of the living area: one with a king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom (with no door separating the bathroom from the bedroom); another with a king-size bed and access to a Jack and Jill shower room shared with the family bedroom, which has two double beds – ideal for two adults or four children. Hanging space for two of the bedrooms is on the landing.

The barn sits within beautiful unspoilt grounds and features a good-sized patio, outdoor dining furniture and charcoal BBQ as well as an unfenced pond where the owners have left a rowing boat for guests to use at their own risk. With no light or traffic pollution and just two neighbouring properties, this is the perfect spot for nature lovers and stargazers.

The barn was just as we expected and nice and warm. One of the local circular walks goes past the end of the garden and Drewsteignton village was an acceptable walk - and where we enjoyed an evening meal in the community-owned pub and a visit to the church. Would definitely revisit.

The property is amazing inside and huge and superb for a family or friends holiday together. We loved the snooker table which is a great feature to have and one of the reasons we booked. Would be good if an additional tv were in the lounge near the kitchen so you had a choice where to sit. We found at Christmas we wanted to watch different channelsRead more which wasnt possible. The bedrooms are a great size as are the bathrooms and very modern with comfortable beds. The owner Nikki was readily available for any issues that arose and made sure they were sorted quickly which was a real plus. We would love to return to South Cuma in the future and wouldnt hesitate recommending it. Hide

An absolute gem of a property. Where do I start? Amazing kitchen equipped to the highest specification. Incredible vaulted ceiling in the main living space. Beautiful situated house. Clean and tidy rooms, very well equipped home. The track to the house is very rural so low vehicles do struggle to get there.

Beautiful, spacious barn conversion. Kept my teenagers and parents happy. Driveway is tricky for a loaded car - our Galaxy scraped it's way down and some of us had to get out and walk to save our exhaust! Worth it though, as the place is gorgeous.

South Cuma really should come with an advisory about access to the property. The drive way down is long and extremely uneven, this caused damage to our cars and also taxis that we had to and from the property. We were actually refused a full journey and had to get out and walk to the property from the drive way as the access was so poor. The properRead morety was well equipped for 10 people but oddly lacked essentials such as tin foil, baking parchment, oil etc. It would have also been useful if the property information included how to use the oven, coffee machine and boiling water tap installed. This property is stunning, and it is in a beautiful location: deer and stoat outside, a stream running beside it, far enough from civilisation, but close enough to visit castle Drogo and do 13-mile hikes across Dartmoor. The house inside is charming, well-fitted kitchen, dining room with a view, a billiard room and a snug. Quite perfect!

The beds were amazing. The only downside was the location was literally in the middle of no where and the roads were very scary. Actually there were no roads. The showers were great but we needed detachable shower heads, so we could clean the kids. They slipped a few times in the jack and jill bathroom. The second king size bedroom bathroom woulRead mored benefit from a door. We were 3 families and we used our own facilities so the shower situation was an issue. You would probably benefit from some children outdoor equipment. As there is not much to do in the area, a dart board would be quite fun. We had small children and we found the living room with the tv was so far away from the kitchen so we were separated a lot of the time, as they watched pepper pig and we were cooking / cleaning. Perhaps a tv in the middle living area? The Christmas tree was lovely and we loved it. The actual cottage it self is lovely. Hide
