Property code: OC-GLADST

An ornate, Grade-II listed house, this property sits at the heart of Braunton, in Devon, where it makes an ideal retreat for families and couples. Sleeping six guests, and offering dog-friendly accommodation, the property is believed to have once welcomed Prime Minister William Gladstone as a guest. Today it provides bright, contemporary accommodation inside, as well as space for unwinding out in the fresh air. From here, stroll out to enjoy the independent shops and eateries of Braunton or head 5.5 miles into Barnstaple for its much wider selection. Have days out on the beach at Saunton Sands, 3 miles away, or Croyde, 4.5 miles from the cottage, which are both known for their surfing as well as their swimming.

Make your way into the three-storey cottage to find sumptuous accommodation that has been designed with your comfort in mind. The main living space is a lounge/kitchen/diner, with a bay window, where you can spend your evenings together in front of the Smart TV, with the wood burner crackling in the background. Whip up hearty feasts for your family and friends over in the chic kitchen area, then dine in here too when you choose not to eat out. There is also a utility room and wet room at this level. A king-size bedroom, with an en-suite shower room, and a double bedroom are on the first floor. A twin bedroom, family bathroom and snug with TV can be found on the second floor of the cottage. Please note there is some restricted head-height up here.

Sit out on the front porch with a cup of tea and a tasty Devon scone or bask in the sunshine out in the courtyard garden to the rear with a glass of wine.

  • 3 bedrooms – 1 king-size, 1 double and 1 twin

Comfortable and quiet location. Limited parking in very narrow local roads. However, having a pub next door was a bonus!

Really lovely property with lots of period features in great location, and walkable into town. Very comfortable with all required modern amenities. Owners were very responsive when we had a small issue with the cooker. Would recommend.

We loved Gladstone - such a comfortable house with everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. Spotlessly clean and smelled really fresh on arrival. Comfortable beds etc. Great pub next door but no noise from there as a small quiet place. We could walk in to town for whatever meal/ takeaway we fancied! Beautiful beaches a short drive away. We spent 11 nights days in Gladstone. The house is pleasant and fully equipped. Parking in front of the house is not always possible, but solved by parking 5 muniten at Chaloners Road Car Park. Day trips using the house as a base are quite manageable.

We have recently spent 5 wonderful days at Gladstone. The house gave us, and our 2 dogs, everything that we could have possibly needed. Cosy settees, a log burner should it be needed (the house was super warm), fully equipped kitchen and a truly comfortable bed. We spent our days hiking the beautiful beaches locally, the evenings relaxing at the hRead moreouse. We visited the Black Horse Pub one evening, which is very conveniently next door to the house. First class food and service. We will definitely visit again. Hide
