At a glance

  • A charming retreat, once a dynamite store for the local quarry and now converted into a traditional Cornish cottage
  • Tucked into the cliffside of Lamorna Cove with superb views of the coastline and out to sea
  • Luscious sub-tropical gardens with plenty of places to sit and enjoy a sunrise, sunset, or an al fresco meal

Property code: OC-MAGAZI

Escape to this pretty cottage set on the hillside above the sea in Lamorna Cove. Perfect for a group of four friends, or two couples who want to escape from the hustle and bustle and enjoy a peaceful location on the coast. The village of Lamorna is small but picturesque and has its own pub which can be accessed via a short stroll on a wooden lane. The cove has a lovely, sheltered beach, popular for swimming and scuba diving. Penzance (5.5 miles) is a bustling town, overlooking Mount’s Bay, with a wide range of shops, restaurants and pubs. Take a visit to the castle on the tidal island, St Michael’s Mount, off the coast from Marazion (10 miles). Alternatively, head to Land’s End (8.5 miles) and take a walk along the most westerly point in the country.

Accessed via steep steps, this charming property has lots of quirks and unique design features such as a spiral iron wrought staircase, and exposed beams. The kitchen has everything you need, and a conservatory/dining room has a table and chairs so you can enjoy eating together while admiring the vista of magnificent ocean views. A cosy lounge has a warming wood burner and comfortable seating. Take the spiral stairs to the first floor which has two bedrooms, one king-size and one twin, and a delightful, nautical family bathroom.

Outside are several spaces for guests to enjoy. A balcony nestled above the cove offers up lovely sea views and a fabulous place to sit and dine. The garden surrounding the property has a further decked area among sub-tropical plants, and terraced gardens continue further up the hillside with plenty of seating areas to hide away, or enjoy the superb vistas. Please note that access to this property is via very steep steps through the gardens.

The main thing going for The Magazine is its position over looking the Cove. But it's also a very comfortable and traditional cottage. It's well equipped inside and out and has good WiFi. In the winter the cafe is closed and the pub only opens at weekends but there's plenty of places to go in Mousehole (a hour or so walk), Newlyn and Penzance

We loved the location and cottage and have rebooked for summer - just a little improvement on cleanliness would make it perfect.

The cottage and location were both wonderful, just a short stroll to the cove and fell asleep to the sound of the waves crashing against the shore. Sebastian at Original Cottages was extremely helpful with updating our parking details and emailing to confirm, nothing was too much trouble. Hope to be back very soon

We are completely in love with this cottage. We didn't have the best of weather whilst we were there but because the cottage was so cosy and comfortable with such beautiful views out over the cove that it didn't really matter. The conservatory was the perfect place to spend time and watch the sea when it was too wet to be out. The outside space waRead mores intriguing with various areas for relaxing and cheeky little models hidden amongst the rocks and plants in the vertical garden. We really hope that we can come back and stay here again soon. Hide

The views are spectacular at this property . It is comfortable and well decorated and for us just perfect. I would say that as it is situated on a steep hill ,and the steps to the property are quite steep and the gravel slippy in places too. It would not be suitable for anyone with mobility pproblems.
