This luxurious holiday cottage, perfect for a family or friends, is situated in the charming coastal village of Thorpeness, which was created by the Scottish playwright Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie during the Edwardian period as a private, ‘fantasy’ place for his friends and family to stay. Today, it’s a popular seaside destination where you can leave the car behind and enjoy the shingle beach, golf course, tennis courts and boating lake, as well as its characteristic mock-Tudor architecture. All around is glorious countryside, ideal for walking, cycling and bird watching, and just a mile away is Aldeburgh, the timeless seaside town where fishermen still haul their boats up the steep shingle beach and sell their catch each morning. Explore its high street with Georgian buildings housing independent shops, galleries and restaurants, and visit the 16th-century Moot Hall and fine hilltop church, where composer Benjamin Britten is buried. Just 7 miles away is Snape Maltings, on the bank of the River Alde, where converted Victorian buildings are home to shops, galleries and places to eat, as well as an internationally renowned concert hall.
The iconic black timber cladding of this lovely house’s exterior fits perfectly into its surroundings, while inside you will find an absolutely gorgeous holiday getaway equipped with everything you’ll need for a fantastic break. On the ground floor, both the lounge and kitchen/diner are full of light, thanks to huge glass bifold doors which leads into the garden. The lounge, with a timber floor and pretty, neutral colour scheme, has comfortable seating gathered around a wood burner, while the kitchen/diner has an array of cupboards, built-in appliances and an enormous fridge/freezer. Also on this floor is a handy cloakroom, and stairs to the upper floor lead from the corner of the lounge. On the first floor there are two large bedrooms, one a super-king-size with its own TV and a classy en-suite bathroom, and the other a twin (super-king-size on request) with a sleek en-suite shower room. Both bedrooms have charming sloping ceilings and Velux windows.
The delightful rear garden, accessed from both downstairs rooms, is ideal for a morning coffee, an evening meal or simply a relaxing moment with a book or a newspaper. With paving and well-established borders, it is equipped with dining furniture, armchairs and a BBQ.
