"Possibly the best rented accommodation we have ever experienced with the bonus of helpful and kindly owners". - Michael Wilson
Occold is a small village surrounded by miles of farmland just 2 miles from Eye, one of Suffolk’s smallest towns which is home to many unusual buildings including an Italianate town hall, an 11th-century castle mound and a medieval guildhall. An 8-mile drive across the Suffolk/Norfolk border will take you to Diss, another historic market town that’s a favourite among antique hunters and famous for its beautiful Mere, a haven for wildfowl. Walkers and cyclists will find plenty to enjoy in this heart of Suffolk setting, while for exploration further afield, the elegant coastal town of Southwold is 28 miles east and the county town Ipswich is 20 miles south – head to the latter’s historic waterfront for a choice of cosmopolitan bars and restaurants.
Built on the site of a former chicken shed, this warm and welcoming holiday home is located on a quiet, no-through lane on the outskirts of Occold. At its heart is a spacious open-plan living room, with traditional-style seating and a dining suite complementing a contemporary kitchen that has every essential for a hassle-free stay. Large windows and fully glazed doors flood the room with light, and for companionable nights in, there’s a TV, DVD, and a selection of books and movies to entertain. Everything is on one level here, so it’s not far to fall into bed at the end of a busy day. Both the twin and double bedroom have dual-aspect windows, storage for clothes and warm carpeting underfoot, while there’s feature tiling in the nearby wet room. For added convenience – and making this lovely holiday home equally suitable for a family or group of friends to share – there’s a second shower in the utility room, along with laundry facilities.
This gorgeous property is about a mile along a private track with only the friendly owners’ farmhouse nearby. Step into the garden to enjoy the sounds of the countryside and unwind beneath starry skies. The open field that’s to the front is a haven for wildlife – keep your eyes peeled for deer, hares and pheasants!
