This former miller’s cottage is ideal for a family or group of friends. It is situated in the extraordinary College Valley, a remote valley in the heart of the Northumbrian national park that consists of 12,000 acres of wild, rugged and bio-diverse terrain - a sanctuary for wildlife and home to a great variety of flora. Expect plenty of peace and quiet – other than the sounds of larks, cuckoos and barn owls. Walkers who seek unspoilt and natural landscape with spectacular scenery need look no further: there are four challenging hillfort trails in the valley, and many other walks of varying difficulty. With vehicle restrictions in place, there is a good chance you will have most of the wilderness to yourselves. The ancient market town of Wooler is 8 miles away, where you will find restaurants, takeaways, shops, a play and skate park, and a small swimming pool. There is also much to do in the local area, including the delightful Ford & Etal Estates, 9.5 miles away, where you can ride a steam train, stroke a heavy horse, learn how the power of water is harnessed to produce flour, and discover a Victorian schoolroom.
This two-storey stone cottage provides exceptional accommodation in which to relax and appreciate this incredible area. On the ground floor, the spacious lounge features exposed old beams, a beautiful polished timber floor and a wood burner with comfortable seating gathered around. This flows into a second reception room with small dining table and double sofa bed which provides the flexibility of sleeping two additional guests (on request). From the large kitchen, which has a range cooker and lots of cupboard and worktop space, extends a bright dining area with a window looking out over the gorgeous views. On this floor there is also a useful utility room and a bathroom. Upstairs, which has low ceilings, there are two gorgeous, country-style bedrooms with beamed ceilings, soft carpets and co-ordinated timber furniture, and another pretty bathroom.
French windows from the lounge lead out to a large, enclosed garden with a stone patio. Here there is outdoor furniture and a charcoal BBQ for you to dine alfresco on warm evenings and relish this genuinely back-to-nature destination.
