This is a charming detached early 20th-century house, in a quiet part of the Northumbrian coastal village of Warkworth. Sleeping five in two bedrooms, it makes an ideal base for a family or group of friends to explore this exciting region. Warkworth itself is unusual in that it’s almost encircled by the River Coquet. 0.5 miles upriver is the famous Hermitage which is a rock-hewn religious retreat. Today it can only be reached by guided rowing boat on certain days, courtesy of English Heritage. The ruins of a splendid medieval castle perch high on a mound just 150 metres from this property, take an audio tour for more info on what remains. There’s a golf course on the outskirts of the village too. Take your bucket and spade to the beach, just 1 mile away for seaside shenanigans. Further afield, Amble is a mere 2 miles away and offers a harbour village, shops, eateries and weekend markets. It’s great for a mooch, as is Alnwick, 5 miles north. This offers retail therapy and the famous Alnwick Castle which dates to the Norman period and is still inhabited today.
From street level, climb steps through the terraced front garden to enter this welcoming cottage. Inside, you’ll find a homely lounge with two comfortable sofas, feature fireplace and countryside and river views from the lovely bay window. There’s plenty of entertainment for cosy nights in, including TV with Chromecast, Xbox 360, and games and DVDs. Just off the lounge is the dining room which seats six in comfort but could also double up as an office if anyone needs to work. The kitchen is any cook’s dream with a walk-in pantry, lots of fitted cupboards in a classic style and plenty of worktop space. Upstairs there’s a generous master bedroom with its own en-suite bathroom complete with a large bath. The second bedroom has both a double and a single bed and lovely views. The bedrooms feature a stylish blend of old and new furniture with relaxing colour schemes, just right for a good night’s sleep. There's another bathroom with a shower over the large bath, so there shouldn’t be too much of a queue in the morning!
To the front of the property, there’s a terraced lawned garden on two levels. At the back there’s a more private, enclosed garden with a patio for relaxing in the sun. The river and beach are both nearby, as well as the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty so there’s plenty of scope for outdoor action.
