A unique property in the heart of the Northumberland National Park, this is the perfect romantic retreat for a couple wanting to enjoy the local trails, sights and activities of this spellbinding region. This barn is in Harbottle, where you’ll find a pub, a castle and paths taking you alongside the river, onto the moors, to local sites of druidic significance, and through the national park. Rothbury lies 8 miles away, a picturesque market town where you’ll find more pubs, plus shops and restaurants. The surrounding area is filled with castles and national trust properties, plus hiking, biking, fishing and rock-climbing opportunities.

This quirky little cottage is compact but thoughtfully designed to make the most of the space. The ground floor contains an open-plan living area with a sofa, easy chair, a well-equipped kitchen and a folding dining table and chairs, so you can utilise as much space as possible. Also on the ground floor is a shower room and a handy utility area with a washing machine, drying rack and microwave. Climb the twisting wooden stairs to the mezzanine level to find the bedroom. This romantic room features a double bed, sloping ceilings, and a Velux skylight allowing you to enjoy the night sky as you drift off to sleep. Wooden steps lead out of the bedroom to the garden.

The outside space at this property is lovely. There is a patio with a picnic bench and charcoal BBQ, and an expansive terraced garden which wraps around the property offering various places to sit, relax and enjoy the stunning countryside views. At the top level is a glass summer house which guests are welcome to use to enjoy the view in all weathers, and a secure shed can be used for storing bikes.

A cosy cottage away from the road in a lovely location which is ideal for walking or trips to the coast. Our host was friendly and welcoming. The property was clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. We enjoyed using the 'sitootie' (garden room) overlooking the beautiful garden with views of the Drake Stone. The property is next to a small schoRead moreol so noise should be expected in term time, but it was very quiet and peaceful when we stayed in August.
