Property code: OC-BARRH

A beautifully finished holiday home, created within one of Thorpeness’ striking buildings, this impressive retreat is perfect for an extended family or a group of friends. Sleeping eight guests, the attractive, four-bedroom property is arranged over four levels and enjoys an enviable position within the village. Savour the unique ambience of this location that was designed as a fantasy holiday destination back in the early 20th century. Spend time on the beach, play golf and take the children boating on the lake. Venture 2 miles into the more traditional seaside town of Aldeburgh, with its wonderful, independent shops and varied eateries serving local produce. Visit Snape Maltings, 6.5 miles away, to explore the converted buildings and enjoy a concert.

Let yourselves into the building which, like many others in Thorpeness, has latticed windows and a mock Tudor style, and you’ll find an interior with a distinctly 21st-century feel and underfloor heating. The lower ground floor offers a wonderful king-size bedroom with en-suite bathroom, a twin room and a family shower room. There is also a utility room down here. At ground-floor level there is a reception hall, where you can store your walking boots and beach sandals, and the stunning lounge/kitchen/diner with its double height ceiling and high windows that allow natural light to pour in. The kitchen area is well-equipped for food preparation and has a breakfast bar for casual meals. A sumptuous lounge has comfortable seating on which to recline as you watch TV or a DVD, and a wood burner to light on chilly days. There is also a double bedroom at this level with its own en-suite WC. Above the lounge/kitchen/diner sits a delightful glass-balustraded mezzanine area boasting views out across Thorpeness and space for dining – it also has an area with additional comfortable seating and another TV. The second floor of the holiday home encompasses a super-king-size bedroom, with zip-and-link beds that can be arranged as twins if discussed at booking, and a pretty wet room.

The shared grounds at this exceptional property are beautiful. Within them is your own private patio with garden furniture, and another private seating space with a bistro table.

Barrie House is stunning. We had a wonderful week there. It is furnished and equipped to an extremely high standard. We couldn't think of anything we needed which wasn't provided. The beds and bedding were very comfortable. The Dolphin pub is great and just across the road. I can't think of a better holiday property for 8 people. Thank you

We had a very enjoyable holiday at Barrie House. A problem with one of the showers was attended to promptly and although unable to be fixed during our stay, was dealt with satisfactorily. Communication with the owner was prompt. The cleanliness wasnt up to standard. We found a mouldy loaf and wraps in the bread bin and some towels we suspect, wereRead morent clean. The property had obviously been empty before our stay and should have been checked before our arrival. The property itself was very comfortable and well thought out and instructions very clear. We particularly liked the artwork around the house. One thing we would change, the size of the towels - they were tiny! Hide

The cottage was beautiful and very comfortable, the bed was amazing in the master bedroom. The property is close to the beach and opposite the pub in a beautiful village. Only slight downside was the dishwasher didn't clean well so we ended up washing up which was a shame over Christmas. More cutlery would also have been welcome.
