Property code: OC-AS275

The stylish interior design and exquisite finishing touches of this stunning 17th-century barn conversion present guests with accommodation that feels luxurious throughout. The property sits adjacent to the owner’s home, in an idyllic countryside location just 2.5 miles from the pretty village of Egerton. Nearby Dering Woods has woodland trails rich in flora and fauna that will provide peaceful and memorable holiday rambles. There is no shortage of captivating historic sites in the area, with Leeds Castle and Sissinghurst Castle Garden both just over 9 miles away, and Bodiam Castle 17 miles away. Tenterden, 11 miles, is home to the Kent and East Sussex Railway – after a stroll around the town’s terrific selection of independent shops, cafes and restaurants, hop on a steam train and enjoy fine Rother Valley views from the carriage windows.

Beautifully preserved, exposed wooden beams draw the eye in every room of this tasteful barn conversion and add a warmth of tone and texture throughout. The main living space is a handsome, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner with a striking vaulted ceiling. This dual-aspect room is flooded with light from two sets of French doors and has tiled flooring with underfloor heating, making it a welcoming place for guests to gather and relax. The room has a lounge area with a sofa and armchair seating, and an adjacent dining area with a dining table and chairs seating six. At the far end of the room, a breakfast bar separates a smart, modern kitchen area where there is a further dining table and chairs seating four. Also on the ground floor, you’ll find a cosy twin bedroom, perfect for families with children, and a family bathroom with a roll-top bath and original wood panelling. There are two attractive double bedrooms on the first floor, each accessed via its own staircase for an enhanced sense of private space. The first is an airy, mezzanine room unsuitable for young children, and the second has its own en-suite shower room.

Outdoors, the garden to the front of the property is for guests’ sole use. Here, you’ll find a patio with picnic-bench seating, additional foldaway furniture and a BBQ, as well as a lawned area either side and a pond.

A very cozy and wonderful cottage stay for a week or longer. We visited Sissinghurst Castle, Chartwell, enjoyed several walkings through the fields or along Bewl Water. The owners of the renovated barn are friendly and hospital. The cottage is well utilized and in the front is enough space to enjoy the weather or to play a game.
