The castle is an obvious choice for a day out, and there is also Bamburgh Beach – a beautiful, dramatic stretch of golden sands which is a popular surf spot. Both are less than half a mile away. Lindisfarne (16 miles) is well worth a visit, offering plenty of history, stunning views and thriving wildlife. Holy Island can be reached from Lindisfarne either by car via the causeway (tide dependant) or by boat. There are plentiful local amenities in Bamburgh itself and nearby Seahouses (2.5 miles) – a quaint village with a lovely beach and pretty harbour – but for a more bustling town visit Berwick-upon-Tweed (20 miles). There, you can walk around the town atop the Elizabethan defence walls, shop to your heart’s content, or even go to a performance at the Maltings.
