Dating back to 1764, this beautifully updated property was once a tollhouse and a village school, and now provides cosy holiday accommodation for up to four guests. Set in the picturesque surroundings of the village of Briggswath, the cottage is surrounded by the stunning scenery of the North York Moors. With miles of walks and bike trails, the moors offer miles of gorgeous scenery with opportunities for fishing along the River Esk. Heading to the coast, the lively seaside town of Whitby is just 4 miles away. This popular resort has a sandy beach and a range of popular attractions including the Dracula Experience, Whalebone Arch and the 199 steps which lead up to the remains of the Gothic abbey.
On entering this light, inviting cottage you will find yourself in the bright and spacious open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner which has an impressive stone floor and exposed wooden ceiling beams lending the space a touch of character. The cosy lounge has plenty of seating so you can unwind in the evening with a favourite movie. The central dining area is perfect for getting together and sharing a family meal which you can rustle up in the stylishly updated kitchen which has a wide range of useful equipment. Heading upstairs, there are two light and relaxing bedrooms, both decorated in soothing pastel shades. The pretty double room has a TV and a tiled shower cubicle, and there’s a charming twin room which has a pleasant outlook along the leafy road. The property is rounded off with a stylish family bathroom, which, like the bedrooms, has a lovely latched wooden door.
Stepping outside, the small, enclosed patio provides a charming spot for dining alfresco. Here you can sit back and hear the beck trickle past behind the property. The River Esk runs close to the cottage, with a stretch of free fishing running from the footbridge to Sleights Road Bridge – the river is home to brown trout, graylings, salmon and sea trout.
