  • Pretty North Yorkshire cottage set in the heart of the Dales
  • Far-reaching views out across picturesque Swaledale
  • Excellent location for scenic walks and day trips into Richmond

Property code: OC-DS668

A delightful, stone cottage, set in undulating countryside in Swaledale, this inviting, two-bedroom abode makes a great base from which to explore the Yorkshire Dales. Nestled in the village of Gunnerside, 16 miles from Richmond, and sleeping four guests, it offers a plethora of fabulous walks. Head out to explore Swaledale on foot, undertaking a 6-mile, circular walk, for example, through the valley of Gunnerside Gill, passing some of the area’s old, abandoned mines. Make a trip in Richmond to browse in its shops, dine out in one of its eateries and visit its Norman castle, widely heralded as one of the country’s most impressive Norman fortresses. Stroll 1 mile out of Richmond to see the ruins of Easby Abbey.

Enter this charming North Yorkshire cottage, taking two steps down into its hallway, where you can leave your walking boots and hang your jackets. Make your way into the kitchen/diner to unpack any provisions. Open the door on to the balcony from here to bring the gorgeous views right inside. Prepare hearty holiday feasts, then dine at the table in here before heading through to the lounge to watch TV together, or simply gaze out across your magnificent surroundings. Light a fire in the wood burner in here on chilly evenings if you choose. Climb the stairs to the two bedrooms: a twin room, with zip-and-link beds that can be made up as one super-king-size if arranged in advance, or a double, both with glorious views. The family shower room is also at this level.

Soak up the scenery from the balcony at the cottage or take in the fresh country air from the enclosed patio area to the front of the cottage, where you can relax on the stone bench. Dine out here at the bistro table on warmer evenings.

Splendid location !! The view from the windows is extraordinary, the light in the morning and the evening makes it an even warmer place to stay. The cottage is really cosy and comfortable, we were happy to go back to Bizzys place from the many walks accessible directly from the house.

Everything was fine, a lovely cottage in an amazing setting. The only slight issue was with the parking space next to the house, which was nearly always occupied. In fact it was possible to squeeze up to 3 cars along the roadside behind the "official" parking space, so we never actually had a problem, but I can see it would be awkward in the high sRead moreeason. We had a lovely ten days holiday at Bizzys Place. The house is quite small so is probably best for a couple or small family. It is very quirky with lots of pictures and ornaments of sheep around. The living room is cosy with lovely views from the window, and there is a wood burning stove for chilly nights. There are two good sizes bedrooms and all Read morebeds were really comfortable. The kitchen had basic equipment, enough to get by on. Parking can be tricky as theres no designated parking, but we did manage on most occasions to get near the house. Gunnerside is a lovely quiet place to stay. The village pub serves good and theres a nice tea room, that have the best scones Ive ever tasted. There are lots of walks from the village, and plenty of places to visit nearby. Hide
