The Regency town of Sidmouth in East Devon is home to this detached, fully refurbished bungalow that’s surrounded by countryside and close to the coast, so families or couples can enjoy both sides of nature with a cosy base to come back to. Sidmouth is on the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town’s sandy beach, a Blue Flag award winner, which lines the town and scenic cliffs, is less than a mile from the property and is a great place to relax and go rock pooling. Walk the beachside esplanade and visit town to shop or dine in restaurants or cafes - not forgetting a must-try Devon cream tea. Other surrounding seaside towns make great days out including Lyme Regis in Dorset (16 miles) which has a beach, picturesque harbour and historic town to explore. Countryside fan? This property is in the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty so there are plenty of scenic paths to meander including the South West Coast Path which passes through Sidmouth.
Climb two steps into the hall of this detached bungalow where all the living space is on the ground floor. Get cosy in the homely lounge that’s bright thanks to French doors (that lead to the patio) overlooking the garden with glimpses of the sea. Admire the views from the sofas with the gas fire flickering and the TV or radio on for relaxation. Family dinners can be rustled up in the kitchen that features a wooden table and chairs for four. The big windows provide peaceful garden views as you cook and dine. There’s also a handy utility area with a washing machine and space to store coats and sandy boots or buggies. The bedrooms are homely: the king-size has a large window at the end of the bed with a rattan armchair beside it, so you can watch the world go by from the privacy and comfort of your bedroom, while the twin has distant views to the woodlands. Pamper yourself in the bathroom, where there’s a shower over a bath, after long days exploring the coast.
The outside is another great relaxation space: pass through the patio doors to the raised, paved area and take four steps down to the bush-surrounded lawn. Care should be taken with young children.
