This charming, semi-detached cottage with luxurious facilities makes for an ultra-relaxing stay in the heart of the South Devon countryside, perfect for families or groups who want to chill out whilst also exploring the great outdoors of rural Broadhempston and beyond. If you can drag yourself away from this luxuries-packed complex of four pretty cottages, visit Dartmoor National Park (11.5 miles) to wander and spot wildlife or Dartmouth (20 miles), a riverside town with art galleries, boutique shops and lots of restaurants for group meals. Relish days of sunbathing and sandcastle building at the nearby coastal destinations like Torquay (10.5 miles), which boasts a harbour and a marina, and scenic Blackpool Sands Beach (19.5 miles).
The beautiful village of Broadhempston is home to two traditional pubs, a community-run shop, and an impressive 13th century church.
Three steps lead up to the large, oak, French doors that are just the beginning of this cottage’s charm. Enter into the kitchen and dining room where a table with enough chairs for all guests sits beside windows that reach almost floor to ceiling and wall-wide (including a glass door leading to the outdoor areas) so family dinners can always be sociable, bright and breezy. Retire to the living room and spend snug evenings on the corner sofa with the TV on and the wood burner crackling. Grab a book from the bookshelf if you prefer. The slate tiles, large, patterned rug and coffee table will help you to feel at home. The WC on this floor adds to the social space. A circular staircase leads up to the first floor where there are three homely bedrooms with traditional vaulted ceilings, a twin which is great for kids or groups; a king-size bedroom with zip-and-link beds and the master bedroom, which is king-size with an en-suite shower room. On this first floor, you’ll also find the main bathroom which benefits from a bath (with a shower over it) that’s great for soaking after outdoor pursuits.
Relax in privacy on the gravelled, furnished terrace at the front of the cottage that overlooks the shared courtyard. All other areas are shared with the three other holiday cottages and the owners’ farmhouse on this complex, though they remain tranquil areas to chill out together or get some you-time. Wander the four-acre orchard or fire up the charcoal BBQ and dine on the lawn garden (containing slopes) with its table and chairs. Property highlights have to be the indoor, heated swimming pool for a family splash around; and the veranda with its luxurious sunken hot tub that overlooks lush countryside. Children should always be supervised around the pool, hot tub and outdoor areas.
