This lovely cottage makes for the ideal retreat for families and friends exploring the moors or the coast. Visit historic castles, abbeys, museums, superb local markets and restaurants; relax next to the wood burner or in the delightful suntrap of a garden, a haven for wildlife and birds. The detached stone property is situated 200 yards from the southern edge of the North York Moors at the gateway to Bransdale, which is owned by the National Trust. The kitchen was once the local Sunday School and the main chapel was built in 1874. You’re spoilt for choice in this part of Yorkshire: bring your bike and explore the moors, or drive to the market town of Helmsley, 7 miles away, to explore the historic castle, walled garden and independent shops found here. The impressive ruin of Rievaulx Abbey, set in a remote valley, is 11 miles and Byland Abbey, an outstanding example of early gothic architecture, is 14 miles. The historic seaside town of Whitby is 23 miles.
The entrance hall features a place to hang coats and next to it is a bathroom with a bath and shower. The kitchen has all you need to rustle up a feast and a table that everyone can fit around, and a door leading out to the garden. The lounge was once the main part of the chapel so has high ceilings and large windows and a door to the garden, as well as a wood burner and comfortable sofas perfect for relaxing on after a busy day. Two steps lead to a raised living area and from here wooden stairs lead up to the mezzanine level with king size bed and original beams, decorated with antique ecclesiastical artefacts. There are a further two bedrooms, one with a king-size bed and en-suite shower room and another with twin beds. Both have amazing views of the surrounding fields.
The garden is a real feature of the property and has a lovely lawned area bordered by mature hedges, trees and bushes and a raised patio area with bench seating.
