This lovely cottage (one of two adjoining the owners' impressive farmhouse) has been created out of an old barn and is set in the small village of Taddington, one of England’s highest at over 1,000 metres above sea level, with quaint cottages, farmhouses, a church and a pub. The Limestone Way is just one of many walking routes that pass through the village, and the remains of the Five Wells chambered cairn, thought to be the highest megalithic tomb in Britain, is set just west of the village. Taddington is between historic Buxton (9 miles) which has thermal springs and a magnificent opera house, and the market town of Bakewell (7 miles), home of the famous pudding and a scenic destination in its own right.

The quaint interior of the cottage showcases original features such as the stone flagged floor and ceiling beams as well as lovely wooden doors and quality furnishings. The spacious lounge has a leather sofa and flame-effect electric fire as well as a TV, and the adjoining kitchen has views across the fields and a pine table and chairs. An open staircase leads up to the bedroom, the showpiece of the house, which has a king-sized bed, a sofa, a TV and more lovely views. The en-suite bathroom features a corner shower and bath.

Breakfast on the secluded patio and share your crumbs with the wild birds; strike out to walk the surrounding fields if you’re feeling energetic.

This is a spacious, cosy and comfortable cottage suitable for a couple. Joy and John are very welcoming, and we really enjoyed our short break here. The "talkative" sheep, and the rabbits in the field out the back, were an added bonus.

Wow, what a perfect cottage for our Christmas 2024 stay. It was absolutely perfect and everything we wished for. It was so cozy while at the same time being super spacious, especially the bedroom and bathroom. Every detail had been thought of, including the lovely Christmas tree and decorations (thanks Joy!). The kitchen was also very well equiRead morepped and the large range double oven was perfect for cooking our Christmas dinner. The location is so idyllic. Lovely and quiet in a very nice village while being well positioned for visits to Bakewell, Castleton. Had we been there longer we would have explored even further - but time just went too quickly. The friendly sheep (for a sheep lover) was the added bonus of the location of this property - I loved saying good morning to them every day. I cannot praise this cottage more and can't wait to return - looking at the visitors book I can see why people do return every year for many years this is a wonderful spot. Thank you Joy and John for creating a piece of heaven in the Peak District. Hide

This property is exceptionally well-presented, clean, classy and comfortable and set in a peaceful countryside location. Our hosts made us feel very welcome and at ease. After travelling over several years to cottages and farmstays in England, we rate this cottage among the very best of them.
