Located between Bakewell and Matlock, the village of Youlgreave makes a good base for exploring the Derbyshire Dales district. Once a centre for lead mining, Youlgreave has characterful narrow streets and old buildings, including a magnificent church that reflects its past prosperity. Matlock, 8.5 miles away, is a lovely town on the edge of the Peak District National Park with nearby Matlock Bath popular among visitors for its Heights of Abraham cable cars and Little Switzerland gorge. Just 4 miles away, Bakewell – home of the unique pudding – is ideally situated on the banks of the River Wye, and has beautiful stone buildings, a medieval arched stone bridge and quaint courtyards that are all must-see.

Within the mellow stone walls of this charming cottage are beautifully decorated rooms with exposed beams, Berber carpets and a calming colour palette. A warm welcome awaits in the lovely lounge, where quality furnishings and a wood burner set the scene for relaxing nights in, while a TV and DVD will meet all your entertainment needs. There’s a dining suite here for mealtimes, and everything you’ll want for fuss-free self-catering is in the light and airy kitchen close by. At the end of a busy day, you’ll be delighted by the two first-floor bedrooms, both with lovely soft furnishings, crisp linen and fluffy towels. One has a double Victorian bedstead and the other has a single bed, and they share the use of an ultra-modern shower room.

Enjoy the country air in a choice of two outdoor areas; to the front of the cottage, there’s a garden with furniture and a summerhouse, while to the rear there’s a small patio with a bistro table and chairs.

This cottage is very nice lovely walks round village all the 3pubs serve lovely food. Parking was difficult as no allocated parking on site only the road which is very busy. This place is not really suitable for elderly or larger people otherwise would be a pleasant place to stay .

Wutley Cottage is a wonderful haven in a great location. The dcor is lovely, and everything you could possibly need is provided, including a fabulous basket of goodies. I have never stayed in such an immaculate holiday cottage before and it's now my favourite property. The bed is so comfortable that we slept really well. The weather was not the beRead morest with snow, rain and cold, so it was great to come back to this cosy place and relax in front of a log fire. We will be back soon. Youlgreave is a lovely place to stay, with a choice of three pubs, two shops and a couple of cafes too. You are surrounded by wonderful countryside and different walks through it. And close to the amazing Haddon Hall and other attractions. Hide

How lucky were we to find this beautiful cottage available for the 3 nights we wanted, and it was yards away from my grandparents' cottage I spent a lot of my childhood and early teens in from the 1940's to the early 60's. Opening the door we walked into a lovely comfortable lounge, so tastefully decorated, as was the rest of the house. A lovely wRead moreelcome note from the owners and a basket of "goodies", wine, cake, peanuts, biscuits etc was a very kind thought. The equipment was second to none and everything spotlessly clean. Very comfortable beds, you don't get that everywhere ! We were warned about the windy narrow stairs so were well prepared. My husband has some walking difficulties, but we helped him up and down and I found coming down backwards the best way. I am biased as Youlgreave is my roots, but it's a lovely village with fabulous walks, good pubs and food and so many places to visit from there like Bakewell, Matlock, Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall., Robin Hood Stride. The old co-op where I was sent for the shopping, as a child is now a YHA, with a fabulous cafe with great food and drinks at very reasonable prices. Do visit Stanton - in -Peak, near there, for views to die for. I could say more, go and find out for yourself. Hide
