An exquisite, Derbyshire retreat, this enticing cottage nestles in undulating countryside on the fringes of the Peak District. Sleeping four guests, the two-bedroom abode is close to the village of Middleton, 3 miles from Wirksworth. Step out to experience the abundance of wildlife at the Hopton Quarry Nature Reserve, 500 metres from the cottage, or plan walks into the national park to explore its magnificent landscapes. Head into Wirksworth to browse in its shops, dine out in its eateries and visit the StarDisc amphitheatre, an enormous sculpture and star chart, carved into black granite, which mirrors the northern hemisphere’s night sky. Carsington Water, with its 8-mile circular walk, opportunities for cycle hire and water sports, is just 2 miles away.

Enter to discover the appeal of this cottage, with its beautiful rooms and underfloor heating. There is an inviting lounge with an oak floor, comfortable seating and a wood burner to light during the colder months as you watch TV or listen to the radio. A large glass door in here can be pulled open on to the garden whenever the weather is fine. A sunny garden room, with timber panels, doubles as a lovely dining room, where you can sit and eat as you gaze out at the garden. The duck egg blue kitchen is a sizeable space for preparing meals during your stay and comes with all the high quality equipment you might need. Also downstairs is a WC. Head upstairs to find the two king-size, boutique-hotel-style bedrooms. Each of these has an individual look and comes with an en-suite shower room.

There is a lawn at the cottage, as well as a very spacious patio, where you can light the barbecue, relax on the garden furniture and absorb the superb views. There is secure storage for bikes out here.

Very nice cottage, tastefully interior designed, lovely thick curtains and comfortable throughout. The artworks and pieces of pottery were super. Comfy King-size beds, good quality bedding and nice fluffy towels. The kitchen was well equipped.

This is a stunning property. Perfect for a quiet retreat, lots of books and games are provided and the view of the valley is spectacular.. very quiet scenery and a great stepping off point for the peak district. The owner was very friendly and welcoming. We had a great time and will likely be back again.

Overall, the cottage is lovely. The kitchen had everything we needed. Beds were very comfortable, and the shower wonderful. The current seating arrangements in the lounge do not fully meet the needs of two couples - there is only one 2 seater sofa, and a couple of individual chairs. The area adjacent to the kitchen is great for meals.

Where do I start!? A gorgeous rustic stone cottage with modern and traditional elements set in picturesque surroundings. The tad bumpy uphill drive to the cottage next to fields dotted with sheep adds to the fun and laughter. Everything from the crockery, to the cookware, the furniture, fixtures, gorgeous hardwood floors, the bedding and mattressesRead more were of extremely high quality. The mattresses were zero gravity of clouds of fluffy softness Hide

A little piece of heaven. It was wonderful to arrive at the cottage, unlock the door and walk through to an immaculately presented space for us to be staying in. We loved the kitchen and dining area/conservatory. The beds were so comfortable and the bed linen very soft. We sat outside and listened to the silence. We enjoyed the Italian restauranRead moret in Wirksworth. And we spent a whole day at Chatsworth House which took all day to see as much as we could. We won't come back because we have so many other places to explore, but we will remember the day we arrived. It did not disappoint and we have recommended the cottage to our friends. Hide

The cottage was all we could have wished for. Modern, clean and comfortable. There was a welcome gift of a bottle of wine along with crisps and biscuits upon our arrival. The area had plenty of places to visit and things to do all relatively local and numerous places to eat and drink. This was our first holiday for a number of years and it didn't Read moredisappoint. We had a wonderful holiday at the But 'n' Ben and would certainly recommend to others. Hide

A charming and comfortable cottage in a stunningly beautiful and very peaceful location on a steep hill farm. Perfect for three (as in our case) or four adults. Rooms are very well appointed, and the beds are extremely comfortable! A few minor remarks: the state of cleaning on arrival left something to be desired (cobwebs everywhere, food debrisRead more and broken glass in dishwasher filter, hairs in shower drains) - from this and the visitor book, it looked as if we were the first guests for a while and it hadn't been cleaned on the day of our arrival. There were only just enough glasses and cutlery, so we had to wash up/run the dishwasher frequently (only 5 teaspoons!). Finally the photos may give the impression that shower gel is provided, but it isn't so remember to bring your own. But apart from that, this is a lovely property and very well situated to explore the southern half of the Peak District National Park. We had an excellent week here. Hide
