This is a stunning old stone house set over three storeys, offering six bedrooms, gorgeous Northumberland views and lots of space to relax into your holiday in luxury. The property is set on the edge of sleepy Alwinton village in the heart of the Northumberland National Park. It’s been thoughtfully updated to retain the best of the old and period features while contemporary touches bring it up to date. This is one of the UK’s designated dark sky regions so there’s some fantastic stargazing on offer. Use the telescope providing in the orangery or just lie out on the grass and look up! During the day, try some of the many walks and bike trails around this part of the National Park or brave the cold water for swimming or fishing in the River Coquet less than 1 mile from the house. Or head 11 miles to the National Trust’s Cragside which is the former home of Victorian inventor Lord Armstrong with gadgets to see inside and extensive gardens to roam outside.
This grand property boasts a boot room which might be a good place to start in this part of the country. Hang you coats or muddy boots before you lounge in luxury in the living accommodation on offer downstairs. There’s solid wooden flooring with assorted rugs throughout. The main lounge has a large wood burner in its original inglenook fireplace, and comfortable seating adds to the cosy atmosphere. The lighter sitting room is equally welcoming with another wood burner but also offers a desk with views from the bay window over the garden, should you have to check in with the office. The third wood burner can be found in the study which has another desk, built-in bookcases and a cushioned window seat making it ideal for curling up with a good book or a bit of homework. The kitchen doesn’t disappoint with its rustic-style tiled floor, Belfast sink and range cooker. There’s a large dining table with plenty of room for 11 to sit and eat holiday fare and a separate pantry for food storage. You’ll all be volunteering to cook in this fantastic space! Four of the bedrooms are up on the first floor along with a shower room and WC. They are all gorgeous, but the master bedroom here is wonderfully spacious with a quirky super-king-size wooden sleigh bed, sloping ceilings and en-suite bathroom with a large walk-in shower and a spectacular copper bath with views over surrounding countryside. Could anything be more relaxing? There are two final bedrooms on the second floor, a super-king-size and a king-size, sharing a shower room with walk-in shower. Both bedrooms offer stunning countryside and garden views and are sizeable with a different decor theme in each room.
The property boasts its very own detached orangery near the house. This glazed garden room has underfloor heating and an additional stove to make things cosy. There are comfortable chairs, a dining table for 12 and a telescope for your family stargazing. Outside, the large, enclosed back garden has plenty of room for little ones to play, older ones to wander or just sit on the garden furniture.
