Reached via a short, private lane, this characterful stone cottage has been beautifully designed and furnished to provide a delightful getaway for a couple or a small family. There is an abundance of quiet lanes for walking and cycling in the local area, with nearby mountains offering more of a challenge, or you could jump in the car instead and experience the breathtaking Bwlch y Groes (Pass of the Cross), one of the highest public road mountain passes in Wales. This 17-mile route links Dinas Mawddwy (the nearest village, 3 miles from the cottage) and the village of Llanuwchllyn, which is also the starting point for the heritage Bala Lake Railway. If you’re feeling adventurous, the 650-acre Dyfi Bike Park (17 miles) is a must-ride for intermediate and advanced mountain bikers.
There is plenty of space in this charming property, whether you prefer to gather around the wood burner in the cosy lounge or relax in the snug, with its games and musical instruments. Also on the ground floor is the spacious kitchen/diner, with oak cupboards and a Rayburn (but don’t worry if you’re not confident with range cooking – there is an electric version, too), and a useful cloakroom. Upstairs, there are two beautifully decorated bedrooms, one super-king bed and one double, both with wool duvets and traditional Welsh blankets, and a bright bathroom.
The cottage benefits from a lovely lawned garden, with private seating areas to the front and back, and a stream running alongside. A small, enclosed bridge takes you over the river (there is access for fishing, too) and into neighbouring fields, while under a shelter you will find an outdoor dining table and chairs, dart board and BBQ – ideal for al fresco meals and entertainment in almost any weather.
