This ground-floor apartment is a great choice for one or two couples who are looking for a chic seaside getaway. Set a mile above the harbour of Dartmouth, it is an excellent base for enjoying the delights of one of South Devon’s most popular towns, where you will find charming historic streets, a range of art galleries, independent shops and places to eat. Why not catch a ferry for a day trip to Torquay, Salcombe or Totnes? Alternatively, stride out on the South West Coast Path, which offers 35 walks within 10 miles of Dartmouth, ranging in difficulty from easy to challenging, or drive to the National Trust’s Greenway house and garden (6.5 miles), the atmospheric former holiday home of author Agatha Christie.
Combining the handsome features of gracious Edwardian living with contemporary, high quality amenities, the apartment offers everything you could need for a relaxing holiday. The light and airy lounge has an original parquet floor, decorative ceiling covings and a large bay window looking onto the patio. This is a lovely space in which to gather around the wood burner and enjoy a book or a board game from the extensive collection, or gaze through the astronomical telescope for views of pretty countryside and Dartmouth town and river. The dining area is set in a handsome hall with beautiful encaustic tiles and lovely views through the adjacent window, with the kitchen set off it, a convenient U shape with plenty of cupboard and worktop space, well designed for whipping up impressive meals – or perhaps mixing a cocktail or two. Another space in which to relax is the large conservatory, which also has views towards Dartmouth. The main bedroom has original floorboards and handsome furniture, including a brass bedstead and Italian boule-style double wardrobe, and the second bedroom – with steps up to the bed – has a calm colour scheme, pretty furnishings and feature works of art. Both bedrooms have en-suite shower rooms, and there is also a separate bathroom (with steps up to the bath).
Doors from both the lounge and conservatory lead on to the patio, which has a gas BBQ and furniture, ideal for al fresco dining or simply unwinding while taking in those gorgeous views of Devon’s coast and countryside.
