This stylish home is ideal for a small group of friends or family to enjoy a holiday together on the South Devon coast. Above Town sits high above the busy harbour town of Dartmouth. It’s a steep half-mile descent from the house to reach the centre of town with its picturesque harbour and a good range of shops, cafes and restaurants. There are all sorts of water-based activities to enjoy and visitors can join scenic boat trips or have a go at surfing on one of the local beaches. The lovely Blackpool Sands is 4 miles away and Slapton Sands with its neighbouring freshwater bird reserve is 8 miles away. For a different day out why not catch one of the foot passenger ferries from the harbour to Totnes, Salcombe or Torquay? The latter provides the quintessential British seaside experience with its sandy beaches, busy waterfront and extensive range of eateries. Closer to home history-enthusiasts can visit the striking Dartmouth Castle on the mouth of the estuary, or head to the National Trust-managed former home of Agatha Christie at Greenway 6 miles away.
In the months of May through to November why not attend one of the many local events and festivals in the area like the Dartmouth Music Festival, Dartmouth Royal Regatta, Dartmouth Food Festival, Torbay Air Show, Brixham Pirate Festival, Devon County Show.
The house is beautifully decorated with a unique layout on the ground floor. The pretty cottage has been extended to incorporate a glass-fronted kitchen and dining area with access to the garden. The ample and tastefully decorated original living room has large windows and French doors opening to the garden. The kitchen and dining area both stretch out along the garden side of the house with floor-to-ceiling glass all the way along. This is a lovely way of bringing the outside in and both spaces are a joy to spend time in. The dining table more than comfortably seats four and there is a corner sofa looking out to the garden through sliding doors. The bi-fold doors in the kitchen open to a paved area with a lawn beyond. The cosy snug on the ground floor with its wood burner, TV and sofas is perfect to retreat to on cooler evenings. Two steps down from the ground floor take you into a wet room with WC. Upstairs guests will find two spacious bedrooms, a light and airy double with river views and a twin with windows looking out over the garden and ensuite with a roll-top bath with a shower over it.
Outside guests will find an attractive enclosed garden with lawns and paved walkways. From the garden by way of a flight of stone steps guests can access a contemporary private roof terrace. Set up with a table and chairs and with a glass balustrade this is a lovely spot for taking in the river views over dinner or drinks.
