Overlooking Brixham Harbour, in South Devon, sits this stately Edwardian mansion. Originally built in 1910, it offers contemporary living and period charm, and is a fantastic space for a family reunion or special celebration. Brixham Harbour is a working harbour dotted with shops and tearooms. From here, it’s a 1-mile walk to the lighthouse and you can spot seals and cormorants along the way. Breakwater Beach is 450 metres away, and a good place for a swim. For cliff-top walks, head 1 mile to Berry Head National Nature Reserve. A haven for wildlife, you can pick up the South West Coast Path and enjoy a 1.5-mile walk in nature to Sharkham Point. For a family day out, head 6.5 miles to Paignton Zoo, or practise your swing at one of Paignton’s fine golf courses.
Spread over three floors, the lower ground floor is packed with entertainment and features a playroom for children, a games room with a darts board, table football and table tennis, an indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a shower and a gym. A double bedroom is also on this floor, plus a private dwelling which is just for the housekeepers. Stairs lead up to the ground floor where a sense of grandeur rules. A formal entrance leads through to a drawing room where you’ll find comfortable sofas, high ceilings, and heavy drapes. From here, step into the oak-panelled dining room and enjoy a meal at the elegant table seating 16 people. Both rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows offering up glorious sea views. Off from the entrance hall, you’ll also find a light and airy games room featuring a full-size snooker table and leather sofas, and a fully-fitted country kitchen with a separate preparation area should you wish to hire help with the cooking. An impressive staircase featuring a glass chandelier sweeps from the entrance hall to the first floor and eight bedrooms. The rooms feature one en-suite king-size bedroom, five double bedrooms, and two twin bedrooms. Ornate in style, the rooms have plenty of wardrobe space and sea views, except for one double bedroom that boasts a pretty garden-facing balcony. There are also two family bathrooms on this floor.
Outside, the garden’s endless natural beauty is a delight. Enjoy a morning coffee on the terrace while watching the boats bobbing in the harbour, or sit in a shady spot on the veranda and absorb the tranquil surroundings with mature trees and manicured lawns. The BBQ area is also an idyllic spot should you fancy dining alfresco and has an elegant table with seating for 16 people.
