Matlock is a lovely town on the edge of the Peak District National Park, with cottages lining the hillsides leading down to the River Derwent. Small independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants cluster around Crown Square, and there are lots of holiday attractions nearby – including Matlock Bath with its Heights of Abraham cable cars and Little Switzerland gorge just a mile south. A little further afield, Bakewell – perhaps best known as the home of the unique pudding – is 8.5 miles and the magnificent Chatsworth House is 7.5 miles away. Surrounded by beautiful Peak District countryside, elegant Buxton – England’s highest market town – is a 20-mile drive.
This contemporary cottage is on a quiet lane on the outskirts of Matlock, with lovely countryside all around. The mood is set for a memorable stay the moment you step into the open-plan living room, where there are ultra-modern dining and kitchen areas, plus a stylish lounge with a wood burner and Smart TV for all the home-from-home comforts. A wide spiral staircase leads down from here to two luxurious bedrooms, each with White Company linen and a double bed; one also has French doors opening onto a small patio with outdoor furniture. Close by, there’s Travertine tiling and a large walk-in enclosure in the shower room, which has underfloor heating for additional comfort.
Unwind and listen to the sounds of the countryside from a choice of two patios – there’s a large one with decking and a picnic bench at the front of the cottage, and another paved area at the lower level, also with furniture, so you can sit and enjoy snacks in the fresh air.
