This coastal retreat is ideal for a group of friends or a family looking to enjoy a relaxing holiday on the Scottish borders. Set right on the waterfront in the border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, all of its amenities are on your doorstep. This lively riverside and coastal town has much to offer with a fascinating history and some interesting architecture to discover. The Elizabethan town walls encircle the old town and have been converted into a scenic walkway with lovely views. Along its streets and hidden alleyways you’ll find all sorts of interesting sights, as well plenty of independent shops to browse along with welcoming coffee shops and traditional pubs. Berwick has a strong connection to the painter LS Lowry and there is a walking trail of information about him around the town. The Northumberland Heritage Coast is within easy reach with its many fine beaches and beautiful walking trails. The Holy Island of Lindisfarne is just 12.5 miles away connected to the mainland via a causeway. Visiting the impressive castle at Bamburgh makes another great day trip and is 19 miles to the south.

The stylish holiday house has been through many incarnations in its time. It was once a whaling house, then a small maltings serving Berwick's brewery, before becoming part of a workshop for sail making. The building has now taken on a new lease of life with its stunning conversion into twelve, attractive, three-storey townhouses. Guests enter from the street into a spacious hallway and head immediately upstairs to the living area on the top floor. Here they will find a stunning space with high vaulted ceilings and large wooden beams. Glass doors line one wall opening to a balcony with sensational river and coastal views beyond. A corner sofa and easy chair are set up to make the most of these views and large skylights overhead let in even more natural light. Behind this, is a spacious contemporary kitchen with a long wooden dining table. It is a sociable and stylish place to spend time and the views only enhance it further. Downstairs on the ground and first floors guests will find three welcoming bedrooms, all with sea views. The ground floor has a room with zip-and-link beds that can either be configured as a twin or a super-king This room also has an en-suite bathroom with a bath and separate shower. The ground floor also features a separate utility/cloakroom. On the first floor, the master bedroom has a king-size bed and an en-suite shower room. The third bedroom is a super-king and there’s also a family shower room on this level. All rooms are nicely decorated and very inviting.

When it comes to outside space, the top-floor balcony is a wonderful addition to the home. On sunny days guests can slide open the doors and let the sea air and sunshine flow in. In addition, guests have access to a secret courtyard garden that is shared with other residents in neighbouring properties. This is accessed behind the house via a set of steps leading to the neighbouring apartment building. It’s a little tucked away but tracking it down is worth it for the views.

Waterfront is an extremely comfortable house to stay in, with a stunning view of the River Tweed. The beds were all very comfortable and having a bathroom each was a real luxury. Fabulous location, and the views from the lounge and bedrooms are wonderful. We loved watching the birds following the tide to feed. Cracking spot to catch the sunrise, too.

Lovely, well equipped home in fabulous position with wonderful views. It is lovely to sit and watch the birds and changing tides in comfort from the living room. We could see both spectacular sunrises and sunsets from the windows. Easy walk into town and good walks around the walls and to the pier.

The location was excellent- peaceful, with a beautiful view out to sea and yet so close to the centre of Berwick. Everything was within walking distance. The parking spot was quite tight. I have a VW Golf and wouldn't have liked to have parked anything bigger.

Well situated with amazing views and close to town and the city walls. Well equipped. Parking is tight and would be difficult with more than one car but once parked up there really isn't the need for a car to get around.
