The Northumberland Heritage Coast is within easy reach with its many fine beaches and beautiful walking trails. The Holy Island of Lindisfarne is just 12.5 miles away connected to the mainland via a causeway. Visiting the impressive castle at Bamburgh makes another great day trip and is 19 miles to the south.
The stylish holiday house has been through many incarnations in its time. It was once a whaling house, then a small maltings serving Berwick's brewery, before becoming part of a workshop for sail making. The building has now taken on a new lease of life with its stunning conversion into twelve, attractive, three-storey townhouses. Guests enter from the street into a spacious hallway and head immediately upstairs to the living area on the top floor. Here they will find a stunning space with high vaulted ceilings and large wooden beams. Glass doors line one wall opening to a balcony with sensational river and coastal views beyond. A corner sofa and easy chair are set up to make the most of these views and large skylights overhead let in even more natural light. Behind this, is a spacious contemporary kitchen with a long wooden dining table. It is a sociable and stylish place to spend time and the views only enhance it further. Downstairs on the ground and first floors guests will find three welcoming bedrooms, all with sea views. The ground floor has a room with zip-and-link beds that can either be configured as a twin or a super-king This room also has an en-suite bathroom with a bath and separate shower. The ground floor also features a separate utility/cloakroom. On the first floor, the master bedroom has a king-size bed and an en-suite shower room. The third bedroom is a super-king and there’s also a family shower room on this level. All rooms are nicely decorated and very inviting.
When it comes to outside space, the top-floor balcony is a wonderful addition to the home. On sunny days guests can slide open the doors and let the sea air and sunshine flow in. In addition, guests have access to a secret courtyard garden that is shared with other residents in neighbouring properties. This is accessed behind the house via a set of steps leading to the neighbouring apartment building. It’s a little tucked away but tracking it down is worth it for the views.
