Southwold has all the ingredients essential for an English seaside resort, its sands lined by colourful beach huts with a busy working harbour at one end and, towards the other, an iconic pier offering slot-machine amusements, souvenirs and refreshments for all ages to enjoy. Home to the famous Adnams brewery, the town is a fusion of fashionable boutiques, bars, restaurants, galleries and family-owned stores, while cute cottages and elegant residences line the surrounding streets – a reminder that this is a place with a history. Southwold is easily explored on foot and a walk across the Common or along the beach to the Blackshore, on the bank of the River Blyth, is enjoyable at any time of year. On the opposite side of the river, the village of Walberswick brims with character and folklore – a historic Ferry carries foot passengers between the two. Further afield, Lowestoft and Oulton Broad – gateway to the Broads National Park – are around 13 miles away by car, the so-called ‘lost city’ of Dunwich is less than 10 miles and close by (4 miles further south) is RSPB Minsmere, a must-see for nature lovers.
Ferry Road stretches from Southwold’s famous Gun Hill to the Harbour’s mouth and features an eclectic range of architectural approaches, including this much-loved, three-bedroom seaside home. Step through the front door and into a welcoming sitting room with a bay window to the front, comfortable seating and a Smart TV plus DVD for home-style entertainment. There’s a convenient shower room to the rear of the ground floor, alongside a galley-style kitchen and dining area with stairs leading to the first floor. It’s here that the special location of the property really comes to the fore, with far-reaching views across grazing marshes towards the Harbour from a king-size bedroom at the rear and equally breathtaking views of the sea from the twin-bedded room at the front. There’s a single bedroom off the landing between the two, meaning that up to five people can enjoy a holiday here.
It's just a few metres across from the front door to the sand dunes of Denes Beach, while to the rear of the property a garden offers a private space in which to soak up the sun and enjoy the sounds of birdsong from the marshes beyond. With decking, a BBQ and outdoor furniture for guests’ use too, it’s a great spot at sunset!
