  • A romantic retreat in a quirky and unforgettable 18th-century Grade I-listed property
  • Grand exterior combines with a stylish interior in a remote countryside setting
  • Relax in the rolltop bathtub after exploring the wider Holkham Estate

Property code: OC-2298

The rural and peaceful Holkham Estate offers scenic walks, wildlife, long stretches of sandy beaches and pretty coastal villages. Step outside the lodge and take a long stroll around Holkham Park, which has a lake, deer park and woodland. On the coast, Holkham Beach (6.5 miles) offers beautiful sandy beaches to relax on. Lady Anne’s Drive (5.5 miles) leads you to a dog-friendly beach alongside thriving pine woods to explore. Wander past the charming beach huts at Wells-next-the-Sea (3.5 miles), which also has a pretty harbour where you can try the freshly caught fish.

From the outside, this 18th-century Grade I-listed property is a sight to behold. Inside the arched building made of large stone bricks, designed by renowned architect William Kent, are two holiday homes which are just as striking on the inside. Entering the living area of your romantic bolthole, you’ll find a comfortable sofa, TV and dining area which sits beneath the beamed ceiling. The charming, compact kitchen has a chic style with all of the essentials — a combination microwave oven, two-ring induction hob, toaster, kettle and fridge/freezer for making a homecooked meal for a delightful night in. Also downstairs is a cloakroom with a WC. Once you’ve climbed the white twisting staircase, you’ll reach the unique open-plan and en-suite bedroom. The low ceiling and stunning archway framing the roll-top bath create a charming and intimate feel. Step out of the bath and jump into the king-size bed which is surrounded by stylish, low-hanging lights. Please be mindful of the low ceilings and limited space due to the character of the building.

Pop open a glass of bubbly and sit outside on your lawned garden area on the bistro table and chairs while admiring the surrounding lush green grounds and your home away from home. Take advantage of the grounds of Holkham Estate with historic parkland and woodland, walking trails, bike hire facilities, a restaurant, gift shop and a lake which are all within Holkham Park. There is parking for one car, on the driveway, and an electric vehicle charging point.

Very cosy and full of character. Really "away from it all" - so nice to see the sky with no light pollution.

Small tiny living which has everything you could need in the most stunning location; everything on the doorstep. The free car parking pass was great and we enjoyed not only the welcome pack but 10% discount card. Not only would we recommend but wed love to return.

An amazing setting for a peaceful break. Wonderful, quirky cottage surrounded by fields inhabited by hares, sheep, pheasants and bats. Our 3rd visit, and we will certainly be booking again. Ideal location for exploring the North Norfolk Coast.

A small but very clean and comfortable cottage in a stunning building on the Holkum estate. We ate out, including breakfast so didnt really test the kitchen. Cottage has a large bath but no shower combined with the bedroom, with no separation. This was fine for us, but may be more of an issue for couples with mobility issues or who perhaps diRead morednt know each other quite so well. Hide

The property was very cosy/comfortable, but it was rather small. The welcome pack was much appreciated. That said it was ideally located and we were able to have our dog there. A light over the stairs would be useful at night, as the toilet is downstairs and some form of waterproof covering under the bath is needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Very quirky location. It was a surprise long weekend away for my wife and the fun was her reaction to arrival at the Triumphal Arch.

The cottage was smaller than expected for the money. Some of the interior windows and the mirror above the bath had not been cleaned. The ice box in the fridge needed defrosting as the door would not shut properly. The hamper was lovely and the location was ideal.
