Sleeping four guests, this historic home is the perfect retreat for a group of friends or two couples wanting to be close to the hustle and bustle of this seaside resort. Whitby has a wide range of shops, pubs, and eateries, as well as vibrant nightlife. The sandy seafront (250 metres) is popular year-round with visitors enjoying soaking up the sun, taking boat trips to spot whales and dolphins, or trying out surfing and paddleboarding. For keen walkers, The Cinder Track, runs through the town and is an off-road route stretching through the North York Moors National Park all the way to Scarborough. If you love to find out about local history, visit the ruins of Whitby Abbey, or the Captain Cook Memorial Museum.
This three-storey cottage was once occupied by Henry Freeman, a famous coxswain, and on entering you will notice the original features that make this home ooze with periodic charm. The open-plan living space has a cosy lounge to one end, with an exposed brick ornamental fireplace and wooden beams. To the other end is a practical kitchen with everything you need for a self-catering stay and a breakfast bar is provided for dining together. Take the steep set of winder stairs to the first floor and find a lovely double bedroom which has wood-panelled walls, a cast iron fireplace, and a beamed ceiling. The contemporary bathroom is on this floor, too, with a double walk-in shower, and a WC. Alight to the top floor via a second set of winder stairs with rope handrails, and find a dormer bedroom with twin beds and storage space. Please note, this room does not have a door between the stairs and the bedroom, and therefore is not suitable for young children.
Unlike many of the other properties on this terraced row, this cottage benefits from a patio garden outside the front. It is south facing so gets sun from morning through to night and has plenty of garden furniture for you to dine alfresco in the evening light.
