Wake up in this appealing riverside property to a wonderful view of water, trees and perhaps a visiting seal. Sleeping four guests, and with seaside villages, market towns and glorious coastal scenery on the doorstep, it offers an ideal holiday base for a family or group of friends. The River Coquet, which almost encircles Warkworth, is widely used for canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding. It is also home to a wide range of wildlife, with regular visits from seals, herons and swans. Visit the spectacular hilltop fortress of Warkworth Castle, once the home of the powerful Dukes of Northumberland, and take a boat to see the Hermitage, a medieval chapel carved into rock and accessible only by river. The pretty seaside town of Amble (1.5 miles) has boat trips to Coquet Island, a mile offshore, where puffins return to breed each spring. Alnwick (8 miles) is a lively market town with a splendid castle, famous second-hand bookstore and a variety of independent shops.
Enjoy lovely river views from the welcoming living room, which has two comfortable sofas and an open fire set in a period fireplace, together with a Smart TV/DVD. The compact kitchen opens to a small, light-filled conservatory which houses a dining table with chairs and looks out to a rear courtyard. A ground-floor bathroom has a shower over the bath and WC. Upstairs, two double bedrooms have peaceful river views and ornamental period fireplaces, with the second bedroom having a double bunk bed with a single bed above a double.
Outside, the front garden, overlooks the river and is planted with flowering shrubs. It has a patio area with a table and two chairs and is enclosed by low railings. The enclosed rear courtyard also has plants and can be used for bike storage and includes a heated dog shower.
