With Curragh Beach – one of seven dotted around the village of Ardmore – on the doorstep, this characterful cottage makes an idyllic setting for a family holiday in West Waterford. Ardmore is believed to be the oldest Christian settlement in Ireland; trace some of the village’s history with a visit to its 12th-century round tower, cathedral ruins and St Declan’s Oratory. If cliffs, beaches and glorious coastal scenery are more to your taste, the 2.5-mile Ardmore Cliff Walk will satisfy you. Afterwards, enjoy the craic at a local pub or restaurant – there are plenty to choose from. Just 12 miles away, Dungarvan is a thriving seaside market town nestled beneath the Comeragh mountains and the starting point for the Waterford Greenway, a cycling and walking trail along the route of a former railway line featuring bridges, viaducts and the site of a Viking settlement. Just 9 miles in the opposite direction, Youghal is the most easterly town in County Cork, with a unique Clock Gate Tower, four beaches and one of Ireland’s largest indoor funfair centres.
Chocolate-box pretty and located on a quiet lane leading directly to the beach, this thatched cottage is the perfect place to escape the everyday and reconnect with loved ones. You’ll get a true taste of traditional Irish life here, with a kitchen/sitting room at the centre of family time and featuring a striking fireplace that’s fitted with a wood burner. There’s space to cook, dine and unwind, while windows front and back allow natural light and fresh air to flow in whenever you want. When it’s time for sleep, the main bedroom has a double bed and leads onto a small boxroom with bunk beds, and the family shower room.
There’s a lawned garden to the front of the cottage, complete with somewhere to sit and enjoy food, drinks and the sea breeze. It’s less than a 100-metre stroll in one direction to Curragh Beach; head the other way across the sands of Ballinamona Bay and you’ll be at Ardmore before you know it.
