Property code: OC-MSWEET

This hillside cottage is ideal for a small family or group of friends to enjoy a relaxing break in Cornwall. It is set in an elevated position in the seaside town of Looe on a steep hillside overlooking the town and the river. The town is a picturesque and lively place with lots of activity centred on the river that divides the town in two. There’s a busy harbour and plenty of opportunity for hopping aboard a sightseeing boat trip or hiring kayaks and taking to the water. The high street boasts a good range of interesting shops to browse and plenty of friendly local pubs and quality restaurants. Unsurprisingly, seafood features highly on the menu here and there is a local fishing fleet working from the harbour. Walkers can stride out along the beautiful South West Coast Path and beach lovers will be spoilt for choice. For a day out, don’t miss a visit to the wonderful Eden Project 21 miles away, or pop along the coast to Polperro, a pretty little fishing village 5 miles away.

The cottage is laid out on two levels and there are superb views from many of the rooms. The cosy living room has an especially impressive vista with a large bay window angled just right. Guests will likely find themselves leaning back on the plush seating and gazing out at the activity on the water. The compact kitchen has a retro-style hatch through to the dining room. This bright and pleasant space is set with a charming table and chairs and glass doors opening to the deck beyond. The ground floor also houses a utility space and a cloakroom WC. Upstairs, guests will find two welcoming bedrooms, both with fantastic views. Both are king-size rooms with the option of configuring one of them as a twin if requested. The family bathroom has a walk-in shower and a heated towel rail. There is also an additional separate cloakroom WC upstairs.

Outside is a fully enclosed fenced garden set across several levels including two decks with seating options for four to the front of the house. This is the perfect place to enjoy meals or drinks alfresco and is especially beautiful as dusk falls and the lights of the town start to twinkle on the water below. The lower lawn is set with a couple of sun-loungers and there is a charcoal BBQ supplied for guests to use.

  • 2 king-size bedrooms (1 with zip-and-link beds that can be configured as a twin upon request)
  • 1 shower room with a WC, 2 additional separate WC
  • Electric hob, oven, microwave
  • Adjacent utility area with fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher
  • Smart TV, record player with Bluetooth speaker
  • Please bring your own beach towels
  • Fully enclosed fenced garden across several levels including 2 decks, table and chairs, lawn area with sun loungers, superb views and charcoal BBQ
  • Parking for 1 car directly outside the property inside the gate (accessed up a steep and narrow lane). Parking is only suitable for smaller cars and vehicles MUST be parked fully inside the closed gates. There is additional pay and display car park within 0.5 miles
  • Shop and pub 0.1 miles, beach 0.5 miles
  • Please note that access to the house is up a very steep, narrow and no-through road. There is a designated communal vehicle turning area adjacent to the property.
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00
  • 2 dogs allowed. Additional charges may apply

The views were great and all mod cons were good. The garden was full of weeds and the grass was really long. The block paving needs power washing as was dirty and had a fair bit of moss.

Fantastic holiday location with a stunning view. Property provided everything we needed. Extra touches were appreciated what with the record player and telescope. Great cycling from the doorstep, a level of fitness needed. Great views of the baby seagulls opposite, we didn't feed the seagulls. Meadowsweet is a beautiful house with amazing views over East Looe. It was spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped. We were able to bring our dog which was vital to us. We loved sitting on the deck and on the window seat and just seeing the world go by down on the river and in town. There are a couple of good pubs very nearby and a couple of wRead moreell stocked little food shops too. The drive up to the house is really very steep so not suitable for people who would struggle with this. We opted for parking in the main car park - 25 for a week and didnt find any reason to use the car all week. Looe is a cosy little town with some nice shops and restaurants. Plenty to keep us happy for a week. Wish we had booked it for two! Next time!! Hide

We had an amazing time at Meadowsweet. The cottage is beautifully done and the view from the bay window and the outside deck was incredible. We had mixed weather but still had a fabulous time. This was my first visit to Cornwall and Looe ticked all the boxes and is my favourite seaside town. We liked it far better than Fowey. The only tricky bit waRead mores the steep hill and parking, which wasn't a surprise as it's in the description, but it is extremely steep and narrow so be prepared for that as a wide car will not get through. My partner is a pro driver - I wouldn't have parked up there if it was me driving, so be prepared! But the position and view of the cottage was well worth the effort and once we were there we did lots of walking to town which was fun and within easy distance. (Had to walk off the tasty pasties and cream teas!) Loved the cottage which is comfortable and has everything for a fantastic holiday and a fabulous night's sleep. Thanks. Hide

Loved everything about meadowsweet. Very well equipped and gorgeous view. That is except the steepness of the hill up to the property, we never got used to that and was very difficult with our luggage as we arrived by train.

A wonderful home with stunning views of Looe. Everything we needed to feel at home, including our little dog! Warm, cosy and clean. We had great pre arrival info but still got a bit lost as Looe has lots of narrow roads not all signposted but we were rescued by a friendly local who guided us to the right road! The fab views come because of the hillRead mores which mean lots of walking up and down and we decided to park locally rather than on the property due to the narrow hilly access road. Car parks are very cheap 2.40 for 24 hours. Looe is a lively, quaint town with the quay at its heart and Meadowsweet is a beautiful home to stay and enjoy this area of Cornwall. Hide

Meadowsweet was a lovely place to stay. There was plenty of space, the kitchen was incredibly well-equipped and the view from the windows was AMAZING.
