This lovely home-from-home has everything a large group of friends or a large family could want, with ample space and a gorgeous garden. Located on the edge of Runswick Bay, it’s the perfect base for a fantastic seaside holiday. Just 5 miles from Whitby, Runswick Bay is a picture-postcard seaside village. Its quaint car-free streets provide a quiet walk to Runswick Sands. This peaceful, sheltered beach with white sand is just 0.5 miles from the property and known as being a great place for fossil hunting. Less than 10 metres from the house, the Cleveland Way offers plenty of stunning walks – north to Staithes (3.5 miles) or south to Sandsend (4.5 miles) and Whitby (7 miles along the coast). Discover Whitby by car (5 miles) and visit the gothic Abbey at the top of 199 steps, learn about the town’s most famous resident at the Captain Cook Museum, and make sure you enjoy some fresh seafood at the town’s restaurants, pubs and fish and chip shops, possibly caught earlier that day and unloaded at Whitby harbour.
The house has an entrance hall, with a cloakroom and downstairs WC off it, which leads to the spacious lounge. This room has a pretty bay window, an open fire in a gorgeous feature fireplace, and lots of comfy seating – the ideal place to relax and watch a bit of TV after a fun day out. Off the lounge is the utility room, and the large, stylish kitchen benefits from a pantry. In the spacious dining room, featuring a large dining table and chairs and an attractive wooden dresser, there is a wood burner and comfy armchairs, making it another homely space to chill out. There are five large bedrooms and three bathrooms in all. On the first floor is a warm and welcoming double with a handy dressing area that leads to the en-suite shower room. A second double features a lovely brass bed, an armchair and a coffee table. There’s also a colourful bathroom on this floor, where you can choose from a relaxing bath or invigorating shower, and a reading nook on the landing. The other three attractive bedrooms are on the second floor, all with sloping ceilings: a twin with innovative storage solutions, a delightful double and a cosy single. There is also a chich shower room on this floor.
The kitchen leads out to the patio at the rear where there’s garden furniture and an outdoor tap in case you come home sandy. Up a couple of steps and along a path is the secret garden, where you’ll find a lawn and a second patio area which gets sun all day long. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy dining alfresco, as it has garden furniture and a BBQ. There’s also a shed for safely storing bikes. As well as getting to the garden from the kitchen, you can access it via a path from the back lane, handy for bikes and sandy feet.
