Experience the best of two worlds by staying in this newly fully refurbished / well presented historical property in a tranquil hide-away setting in the heart of Whitby. Head down the steps from the cottage ,cross the yard (built circa 1828) and take the short passageway into Church Street where you are transported in an instant in the bustling centre of town with its tea rooms , bars, and restaurants along with wonderful gift shops. If you wish you can then follow in the footsteps of Count Dracula and climb the 199 Steps to Whitby Abbey or stop off at the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, set in the harbourside house where the explorer lodged as a merchant navy apprentice. Stroll around the harbour or take a boat trip and watch the seals and porpoises. Or travel further afield and enjoy a hike through the North York Moors National Park or visit the many pretty Yorkshire villages nestled among the moors.

When you walk into Blackburns Retreat full of original features you will find a cosy living room with a beamed ceiling and wood-panelled walls. The character and atmosphere of the past has been retained whilst at the same time adding the modern elements you will love. So snuggle down to read , listen to music or watch Smart TV. The kitchen has been newly fitted to include granite work surfaces and modern appliances. For storage, there is a large cupboard under the stairs. The stairs lead from the kitchen to the galleried dressing room with built-in wardrobes to hold all you will need to get ready for an evening out in Whitby. Take one step down into the bedroom which boasts a king-size bed, and lots of  storage space for your belongings.

At the front of the property is a paved patio overlooking a small ornamental garden , where you can sit and enjoy a drink while watching the sun go down. Beautiful little apartment in an amazing location in the old town. Really nicely decked out, with enough space for a couple - and their dog. Downstairs is cosy and upstairs is quite spacious, with plenty of storage. We visited in October but imagine the terrace is a great spot for a pre-dinner drink in summer. Be warned, you can't reach the cottaRead morege by car at all, and need to lug suitcases up a lot of stairs, so wouldn't be suitable at all for anyone with mobility issues, or who struggles carrying items upstairs. Also ceilings are very low, for lanky folk like me! Hide

This is a very pretty cottage in the centre of the town but also very quiet. There are a lot of steps to it so would not suit someone with mobility issues, and you have to take your luggage quite a way from the carpark. However well worth it once you get there. Whitby is the prettiest place you could imagine, and we are definitely going again.

The cottage is lovely inside, decorated tastefully and modern but still remains charming. The location is great, tucked away off the main shopping street with plenty of restaurants and cosy pubs to visit. Beach is beautiful and the cottage is by the 199 steps. We loved our stay at here and would definitely stay again.

Lovely, quirky little cottage. My partner is 6 ft 3 so beware your head as he did bang it a few times on ceiling and light fittings. The cottage is right in the centre of Whitby and was great for access to all needed. Bed was really comfortable apart from the flooring being unlevel. Shower was great and powerful. The kitchen had everything you needRead moreed and it was a nice touch to be left a gift of tea, prosecco, cake and biscuits. Hide

The cottage was very clean, comfortable and is in a perfect location up a small alley off church street and close to the 199 steps. It has a lovely courtyard with seating outside. It is a small cottage but more than adequate for a couple. It has everything you need. The bed is very comfy. We would recommend a stay.
