Allendale, a picturesque village and the largest community in the Allen Valleys, is part of the North Pennines and is the host of the annual Folk Festival held at the end of September and the amazing New Year Tar Bar’l. There are friendly pubs, cafes just off the marketplace, a quirky sci-fi museum, and a renowned art gallery in the Allendale Forge Studios. This area is known for its breathtaking scenery, beautiful rivers, woodland and moorlands, and is home to a wide range of wildlife. Outdoor enthusiasts will love exploring the many local walking, hiking and cycling trails. Visit nearby Hexham (10.5 miles) for Hexham Abbey, Sele Park, river strolls, shopping and restaurants. Try quad biking at Slaley Hall (9.5 miles) or play golf at the AONB Allendale Golf Club (1.5 miles). This impressive and unique lodge was designed and located with the views in mind sitting unobtrusively as it does within 4,000 square metres of private land above the wooded valley.

Enter the front door into a porch/boot room area with two benches where you can store your outdoor clothing. Head into the open-plan living space and the first thing you will notice is the wall-to-wall windows and the amazing view. The lounge area has a large sofa and footstool where you can unwind in front of the warming wood burner and watch a film on the Smart TV. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need and more and the dining table is positioned in front of the balcony window so you can enjoy a sociable meal together looking over the valley. A door leads out onto the balcony with garden furniture so you can enjoy indoor/outdoor living in the warmer months. There is a bedroom leading off either side of the main living area. One bedroom has a super-king-size, and the other bedroom a super-king-size zip-and-link bed (which can be made up as a twin on request) and each bedroom has an en-suite with a walk-in, wet-room style shower and WC. Electric blinds and electric operating windows ensure you can control how well you sleep.

Outside, at the front, there is an outside tap and sink, perfect for cleaning boots and your dog’s paws. There is also a secure bike store which can hold four bikes. To the rear, there is a large balcony with lighting and a glazed balustrade so you have uninterrupted views and a sunken four-seater hot tub where you can relax and unwind after a day exploring the area. The skies here are very dark so you can star gaze and even glimpse the aurora borealis from time to time.

  • 2 super-king-size zip-and-link bedrooms (one of which can be made up as twins on request)

River View Lodge is a beautiful place to stay with a fantastic view. Situated in the village but still managing to feel private. The bathrooms were of a high standard - amazing showers with lots of space. Bed was super comfy and the electric blinds revealing that view every morning was a bonus. Lots of walks with the best up on the nearby moors and along Hadrian's' wall. Would love to return. Hide

We had a great family stay. The lodge was very well finished with high end kitchen and bathroom detailing and was spotless on arrival. The deck had nice views and it was a pleasure to sit in the hot tub and look out. We saw the aurora from the hot tub which was fantastic. Although previously mentioned, the hill is steep but does reward you with a fantastic luxury lodge and views.

The lodge was absolutely gorgeous. The owners had thought of everything. Everything was spotlessly clean, the beds were comfy and it was lovely and warm. The views were lovely and made you feel so relaxed. We even got to see the northern lights. You can sit and star gaze in the hot tub at night. The only down side is you have to park in the Read morevillage ( which is never a problem) but if youre not good on your feet its a steep walk down and up to the lodge. Andrew comes to meet you on the day of arrival and departure and helps you take your things to and from the lodge. I would certainly recommend and we look forward to visiting again. Hide

We have just spent a wonderful week in River view Lodge, it far exceeded our expectations in terms of the quality of the fixtures and fittings and the craftsmanship is exceptional! The views are stunning whether your sitting in bed or in the lounge or relaxing in the hot tub on the deck! The owners are extremely helpful and as others have said the Read morefact that there is no parking on site is not a problem, Andrew met us in the village which is only a short walk away and took all our stuff up to the lodge. The village itself is pretty with 2 nice pubs, they only serve food at the weekend but there are plenty of other pubs in nearby villages if you want to have a drive out. The Spice Valley is also well worth trying for a Indian takeaway. The local area is beautiful and there are plenty of walks directly from the lodge and along the river, but coming back to that fabulous hot tub waa an absolute treat! Thank you Andrew and Sarah for a wonderful week, it really is Five star luxury and would highly recommend to others. We will be back again.....even if it is just to get a good night's sleep in that luxurious bed! Hide

What can I say about River view lodge other than absolute perfection! Peaceful! tranquil! absolute luxury! and what a setting! We have a couple of holidays like this a year and rarely return to the same place, which is more out of variety than anything else but RVL could be an annual holiday for us going forward. I always say that the place we stayRead more has to be on par or better than what we have at home! When we arrived I think Andrew thought we were staying for a month, we always go well prepared through experience but Andrew's attention to detail is amazing he's pretty much thought of anything and everything. You really have to see this place to appreciate it, fixtures fittings and the finish are as good as it gets, the beds and bedding are pure luxury. It's a shame this place wasn't on grand designs as I would have loved to have seen the building of it. It's the best UK holiday we have had, the local area is beautiful with loads of nice walks by the river. Sometimes it's the smallest detail that makes all the difference and this was how dog friendly it is, hot and cold water to wash your dog off with towels shampoo and all other bits provided. Fantastic! For us this is a 10/10 place we didn't want to leave. WE WILL BE BACK! Hide

The lodge is set in a wonderfully peaceful location, looking over the river valley and set on a steep slope bursting with wildlife - fantastic if you like bird watching and looking out for red squirrels. There are walks along the river and woodland straight from the property and we had a few clear nights so could appreciate the owls and the night sRead moreky. The whole property has floor to ceiling windows. It is of very high spec - the beds in particular are extremely comfortable. The only potential issue I feel the need to point out is that there is no parking on site - this is fine as it is close to the centre of Allendale where all the parking is free and easy to find. BUT - the walk up to the lodge is very steep, so if you have any health or mobility issues this is not the best property for you. For everyone else, I can 100% recommend. Hide

Wow! This is an undiscovered gem of a place. We are super fussy when we book holiday accommodation and I couldnt fault this.
