Famous for its riverside location and a full calendar of festivals – including the annual Musical Eisteddfod – Llangollen really does offer year-round appeal for everyone. Close by, the breathtaking Clwydian Range and Dee Valley make prime destinations for walkers, nature lovers and thrill seekers. Enjoy far-reaching views of the peaks from this charming holiday home, which is close to the town’s weekly markets and independent stores. Horse-drawn boats and a steam railway give a peek into the transport of the past. Discover more history on your doorstep at Plas Newydd Historic House & Gardens, or step back even further in time at Castell Dinas Bran – you can see its medieval ruins from your holiday home. Other mustn’t-miss sites include one of the ‘seven wonders of Wales’, Llangollen Bridge – a favourite spot for white-water rafting, kayaking and fishing – and 4.5 miles east of the town, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

After a busy day of outdoor adventure, this striking townhouse is the perfect place for a group up to eight to enjoy laid-back leisure time together. It was originally built in 1875, reconstructed in the early 1900s, and has been masterfully modernised to offer accommodation spread across three floors. There’s a circular flow between rooms, with a stylish lounge to the left, a dining room to the right and each with a door into the kitchen. Vibrant splashes of colour, contemporary furnishings and on-trend fabrics add a luxe vibe to the two living spaces, while the kitchen features exposed brick walls and a bold palette. The washing machine and heated clothes dryer are great if you’re travelling light or need a swift turn-around of wet gear. Stairs from the kitchen lead to a basement-style double bedroom, which has its own en-suite WC.There are three further bedrooms on the first floor – a double with an en-suite shower room, and two twin rooms, plus a family bathroom with a modern free-standing bath and a separate shower. The views from the bedroom windows towards Castell Dinas Bran and the Clwydian Range will be a very welcome sight each morning.

You can enjoy more stunning scenery from the two outside spaces here: both are patio-style and feature outdoor furniture plus shrubs and potted plants. The patio to the front of the house is backed by a high wall, while the space at the rear – known as the ‘hidden’ garden is accessed via the kitchen and stone steps.
