For a quintessential Welsh stay in the heart of the Brecon Beacons, stay at this charming old stone cottage. It’s ideal for couples or small families looking for a cosy retreat – adventure seekers will be in their element, with fantastic cycling, walking and mountain biking routes right from your doorstep. It’s in the sweet village of Llangorse, with a friendly community shop and two welcoming pubs within 100 metres. In nearby Brecon (6.5 miles) you’ll find restaurants, shops, a theatre and a delightful independent cinema. Outdoor fun awaits at Llangorse Lake (1 mile), where you can hire rowing boats, kayaks, Canadian canoes, pedalos and stand-up paddleboards or take part in some fishing. Head to Llangorse Activity Centre (1 mile) where there are plenty of activities for everyone, including horse-riding, archery and climbing. For peaceful canal-side strolls head to Talybont-on-Usk (6.5 miles), or while away an afternoon in the bustling market towns of Talgarth (4.5 miles) and Hay on Wye (12 miles).

This cosy abode has a topsy-turvy layout, with its two inviting king-size bedrooms on the ground floor, along with a bathroom featuring a shower over the bath and WC. For daytime relaxation and meals, head upstairs to the charming open-plan living space, with its vaulted ceiling and striking painted beams that form an inverted V above your heads. The lounge sits to the right, with a sofa, comfy chair and TV, offering a snug spot to relax, while a well-equipped kitchen and dining area is on the left. As you explore, look out for period features like window seats and in-built shelving, all of which add to the traditional atmosphere.

Outside, the enclosed garden, surrounded by characterful stone walls, provides a lovely setting for enjoying the fresh air. It’s got a good-sized lawn and a small covered area so you can unwind even if the Welsh skies have opened. With off-road parking for two-three cars, there’s plenty of space for everyone’s vehicles.
